Our school district has made the national news over the last few weeks for teacher sick-outs and student protests. I began working full-time with Edgewater Collective last November. At the same time a conservative school board majority was elected and our school district became involved in a political firestorm.
In the midst of protesting students and rallying teachers, we are bringing together a broad coalition to find common ground around helping kids in our area succeed from cradle to career.
We are staying out of the political debates and rallying our community to make a difference in the lives of our children
Here are some of the highlights from September:
Brought together over 35 Community Partners to start developing our cradle to career pathway
Working Groups of teachers, community members and local leaders began determining our pathway goals
Started a volunteer hub on our website to give community members a way to get involved in our local schools and organizations
Helped facilitate the start of an after school program at Lumberg Elementary with community volunteers led by the school
Participated in meetings to align resources in the school district and with various Community Partners
This is exciting and fulfilling work! The momentum is building and we will soon begin to see change in the lives of our kids!
Thank you for your support and encouragement. We are making a difference together!
