Guest speaker Louise Heathwaite, Chief Scientific Advisor Rural Affairs, Food and Environment, Scottish Government, praised CXC as a frontrunner in engagement between science and policy. She also outlined the challenges and opportunities for the centre as the Scottish Government develops its next five year strategic research plan.

Research and Peatlands to 2025
We will gather key stakeholders for a workshop on the proposed Scotland's Peatland Action Plan. The event will fous on:
- reviewing ‘what is known’ and ‘what is required’ in terms of research to inform a strategic approach to peatlands up to 2025; and
- discussing the possible functions of the proposed Peatland Research Group
The outcomes from the day will inform the work of Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) in finalising the National Peatland Plan following the consultation phase.
