HUD Announces Getting to Work Training Curriculum for HIV/AIDS Service Providers and Housing Providers

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) are pleased to announce the launch of Getting to Work: A Training Curriculum for HIV/AIDS Service Providers and Housing Providers.

Employment can be critical to improving the economic and personal well-being of people living with and most at risk of HIV/AIDS. Employment has been shown to impact health and can increase a person’s ability to live a satisfying, productive and meaningful life. Employment can also increase financial self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on publicly funded benefits and other services.

Getting to Work provides an overview of the reasons why employment services for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are essential, describes successful approaches to incorporating employment into HIV/AIDS service provision, and highlights promising programs. This online course offers recommendations and resources for service providers to assist PLWHA with entering or returning to work.

Getting to Work is divided into three online modules. Module 1 provides useful background information for community partners who do not have a lot of knowledge about the topic of employment services within the context of HIV/AIDS service provision. Module 2 and 3 will be available soon.

Visit the Getting to Work training page for more information and to enroll.

HOPWA Getting to Work Pamphlet

Coinciding with the launch of the Getting to Work Training Curriculum, OHH is also proud to provide a new reference tool, the HOPWA Getting to Work Pamphlet, to guide agencies in their efforts to develop and/or provide employment training for HOPWA beneficiaries.

This pamphlet combines the information previously provided in the OHH monthly focus on employment listserv messages over the past 8 months.
