Come and have a laugh - stand-up comedy for beginners
Sat 18th October 2pm
Calling all funny women! If you love to make others laugh then this is the workshop for you. The talented women behind Laughing Cows comedy night will teach you the basics of stand-up performances, from delivering a punchline to overcoming those pesky nerves. You'll then get to show off your new-found skills to the other workshop participants!
This workshop is free and is open to anyone who self-identifies as a lesbian or bisexual woman but places are strictly limited so book yours now by emailing women@lgf.org.uk or calling 0845 3 30 30 30.
This workshop is part of the Women in Comedy Festival which is taking place across Greater Manchester throughout October. See below for details of other comedy festival events.

Celebrate Black History Month
Friday 24th October 6.30pm
Join The LGF and Rainbow Noir (Manchester’s group for queer people of colour) to celebrate black history month with a film screening and discussion for lesbian and bisexual women.
‘The Peculiar Kind' is a documentary based on the popular web series of the same name. It explores the lives and experiences of queer women of colour through eye-opening and unscripted conversations.
Following the screening we'll have a discussion facilitated by Rainbow Noir about the lives and experiences of black lesbian and bisexual women in the UK and how these differ from or are similar to those in the film.
This is a free event but places are limited - click here to reserve your free ticket. This event is open to anyone who self-identifies as a lesbian or bisexual woman.
The LGF is celebrating Black History Month throughout October with a social media campaign raising awareness of inspirational black LGBT people past and present. Find out more by clicking here or share the folks who inspire you by tweeting @lgfoundation using the hashtag #BHMLGBT.

Apply for funding to celebrate International Women's Day in Manchester
If you're a member of a voluntary or community group that's based in Manchester, you could apply for up to £1000 to put on an event to celebrate International Women's Day 2015.
Each year, International Women's Day is marked around the globe on 8th March. Manchester's theme for International Women's Day in 2015 is 'Breaking Through' and there are grants on offer for events that educate, inspire and engage women around this theme.

Highlights from Manchester Literature Festival
Manchester Literature Festival is taking place in venues across the city from 6th-19th October. There's loads of literary adventures to be had but we've picked out three events that you won't want to miss...
Sarah Waters - The Paying Guests
Sun 12th October 3pm
The Royal Exchange Theatre
Sarah Waters found fame with her first novel, 'Tipping The Velvet', which told the tale of Nan, an adventurous lesbian in 1890s London. Since then she's had a series of successful historical novels, including 'Fingersmith', 'The Night Watch' and 'The Little Stranger', many of them with lesbian themes. Her new book, 'The Paying Guests' is set in the 1920s and shows how passions and frustrations mount when an impoverished widow and her spinster daughter are obliged to take in paying guests to make ends meet. Polari Literary Salon

London’s award-winning LGBT literary salon began life in November 2007 in the upstairs room of a bar in Soho. Events are now held monthly at the Southbank Centre and feature the best in established and emerging, queer literary talent. Hosted by author Paul Burston, this special salon for Manchester Literature Festival features performances from author & playwright Neil Bartlett (The Disappearance Boy), scriptwriter & novelist Jonathan Harvey (The Girl Who Just Appeared, Beautiful Thing, Coronation Street), comedian & writer VG Lee (Always You, Edina) and Rosie Garland (Vixen, The Palace of Curiosities). Patience Agbabi - Telling Tales

After a fantastic appearance with Young Enigma at Contact in February, award-winning poet Patience Agbabi retells Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales' for the 21st century in her new collection, Telling Tales. Manchester Women In Comedy Festival

It's that time of year where the nights get longer and the days get colder so we need a little cheer to brighten the autumn days. Just as well that Manchester's second annual Women in Comedy Festival is on it's way to cheer our dreary days then!
The Festival kicks off with a launch night party at Bangkok Bar on Saturday 11th October hosted by Janey Godley with Zoe Lyons and Kate Smurthwaite, which is followed by the ever-popular Rapture Club Night. Other highlights are almost too numerous to mention but include Zoe Lyons on Sun 12th Oct, Caz n Britney: Scottie Road The Musical on Thu 16th Oct, Ride The Lezzer Express on Fri 17th Oct, Hannah Brackenbury and Queer Girl Meets Queen of Flamenco on Sat 18th Oct, Kerry Leigh on Sun 19th Oct, Sidney Street Cafe Comedy Night with Bethany Black on Thu 23rd Oct and of course the Festival Wrap Party on Sun 26th October.

This month we love...boobs
Well, to be honest we love them every month! But we particularly love them in October as it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a great reminder for all of us to be checking them regularly.

Fancy a free swim?
Wednesday 15th October 8pm
The girls at Northern Wave (Manchester's LGBT Swimming Club) are inviting you to join them for a swim and some socialising on Wed 15th October 8pm at Chorlton Leisure Centre.
The club's women only swim takes place every Wednesday and they'd like some new peeps to come and test the water with them. So they're offering a free social or coached swim to any new women who come along. No need to book, just turn up!
The swim session lasts an hour and is suitable for swimmers of all abilities. Afterwards there's some social chat in a local pub. Find out more by emailing women@northernwave.org or by calling/texting Marie on 07506837536.

New social group for lesbian & bisexual women
Sunday 5th October 4pm
Women's Table Tennis Playtime is a new social group for women who want to get together, play some table tennis and socialise in some of Manchester's funkiest bars.
Their next get-together is on Sunday 5th October at 4pm at Kosmonaut. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
