Student Cell Phones Off During the School Day

This message is a reminder that students are not permitted to use their cell phones at school except when given specific permission by a staff member.  Unless a teacher has asked students to bring their phone for a specific purpose to class, cell phones should be off throughout the school day.

This means that students are not allowed to use their cell phones to get in touch with parents during the school day.  We have a phone in our main lobby that students can use during lunch if they need to call a parent.  If your child gets sick during the school day, he/she needs to visit the school nurse who will call to notify you if your child has a medical need.  If you text your child during the school day, he/she will be able to retrieve the message at the end of the day when it is time to go home.  I have had parents say this has been effective when a change in plans occurs such as when they are going to pick their child up instead of having him/her ride the bus home.

As we are starting to use phones more as a technological tool in class, we need to ensure that allowing cell phones for educational purposes does not distract from our overall learning environment.  We appreciate your help in supporting our limiting the use of cell phones during the school day so the students can focus on learning.

CHMS Takes the Floor at the United Center Prior to the Bulls on January 12th, 2015. This is a save the date message as more information will be forthcoming in the future.

The Clarendon Hills Middle School 8th grade girls’ and boys’ basketball teams have been given an exciting opportunity to play on the United Center court prior to the Chicago Bulls' Game on Monday, January 12th, 2015.  The students will be playing a fifteen-minute game at 6:30pm before the Bulls and the Orlando Magic take the court at 7pm.  In conjunction with this, we are selling tickets to the game at the face value cost of $40 each to any members of the CHMS community and their family and friends.  Please mark your calendars now and more information will be coming in November!

Family Education Series Presentation October 22-23rd: “Taming the Homework Beast”

The next event in the family Education Series is “Taming the Homework Beast” with The Reading Ladies.  Parents are invited to join this two-hour session on either Wednesday, October 22nd at The Lane School from 7-9 pm or Thursday, October 23rd at CHMS from 9-11am.  The presentation will provide parents with tips for helping their children with time and materials management, goal setting and study skills.  Registration is online at
