Afterschool Matters

The field of after-school is evolving in exciting ways. A survey of 68 after-school programs, conducted by the Afterschool Alliance, found that students participating in high-quality programs went to school more often, behaved better, received better grades and performed better on tests than peers not attending afterschool.

Out-of-school time not only has many positive effects on a youth's academic career, but Joe Bertoletti from the Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality says, "out-of-school time is flexible, so you can match the interests of young  people." Not only are youth becoming better students, but they also can be involved with a group that he or she enjoys.
