Afterschool Matters
The field of after-school is evolving in exciting ways. A survey of 68 after-school programs, conducted by the Afterschool Alliance, found that students participating in high-quality programs went to school more often, behaved better, received better grades and performed better on tests than peers not attending afterschool.
Out-of-school time not only has many positive effects on a youth's academic career, but Joe Bertoletti from the Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality says, "out-of-school time is flexible, so you can match the interests of young people." Not only are youth becoming better students, but they also can be involved with a group that he or she enjoys.

Afterschool Symposium: The State of Afterschool
On Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 8:30 AM, APOST will be hosting the Afterschool Symposium: The State of Afterschool at the IBEW Circuit Center located at 5 Hot Metal Street Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
The Afterschool Symposium: The State of Afterschool will focus on recent data findings on families, funding, and programs in Allegheny County. This information is vital because afterschool plays an important role in over 188,000 K-12th grade students in Allegheny County.

Lights On Afterschool 2014
On Thursday, October 23, APOST will be shining light on after school programs at the nationally celebrated Lights On Afterschool!
We’ll provide dinner, t-shirts, music, and fun for after school youth. Please email us with the primary contact person and the estimated number of youth and adults for your organization.

Supporting Youth Living with Grief/ Loss/ Trauma
This workshop provides personal and professional information, testimonies, and tools for healthy ways to work with and support youth adjusting to life and coping while living with grief, loss, and/or trauma.
