The end of winter brought a few hurdles for the Seven Oaks chickens. The cold, wet days took their toll on some of the retired matriarchs and a hungry fox decimated the quail population.
When spring arrived we decided it was time to boost the poultry numbers with an all-rounder that was both friendly and an efficient egg layer. After some research we settled on the Australorp and went to Craigs Farm in Cranbourne to pick up some fertile eggs. 21 days later we hatched a healthy bunch of curious little black and yellow chicks that will soon be added to the rest of the group.
