Picturesque news from the Garden
Let's start with the joy -

katja planted tomato seedlings grown in the compost of a member's garden.
  \
painting party marker for tom.beds, darling lady bug, seed trays, and PF in a
"so kam," or shirt worn by Thai rice farmers. Don't take my word for it on the
Thai name.

Scientific Correction - oops

The garden master smiles knowingly as I confess that on seeing some more of the strange hairy creatures on the okra

it's position on the tip of the fruit struck me

the red base of the flower, where the fruit springs from..
suddenly I KNEW, and no longer afeared, i touched the slimy dead okra
flower so it fell off the end of the fruit, and the mystery of the hairy, slimy
insect was solved. It is not an alternative form of  puss caterpillar, that hairy
injurious creature, it is a hairy okra flower.

We are a non hierarchical garden - the garden master is given this position
in official paperwork; in practice  the garden master is hands off and lets  us
learn, each one teaching one when the need arises, and each of us learning
what we need to know as we go.

a great pic of Cindy , if i say so myself.

I like the colors and contrasts. I like Marc's calm hardworking presence.

Linny in the rows, tiny lettuce seedlings being given tender care - oh
how we will enjoy the plentiful harvest - our garden gives generous
returns to our labors.

NEW callaloo - the harvest of fresh green heads is regrown almost as soon as
it is picked. I fry it up - mm mmm Jamaican Spinach.

Ingrid's great works, organising self managing systems, grwoing burgundy okrs;
pic 3 is cerassee, it has a small yellow flower and a pointy ended orange seed pod
whcih splits open to reveal a slimy red mass of seeds inside - we used cerassee in Jamaica as a blood purifier. Boil leaves and drink the tea.  And Ellen, wearing a
yard sale find, a rain drop necklace, perfect for the touch of pizzaz Elle brings to
the garden.
Katja and I were stilll pottering and talking at 1pm, and i kept feeling drawn back - maybe to photo the remaining new lemongrass, - let us hope the little plants make it-
we need labels..One is inside the fence and one outside.
I finally left at two. There are some activities that simply flow. Saturday morning becomes a touchstone for the rest of the day, and now Sunday  - ahh a beautiful weekend.
