Apollo Power Yoga

Here at CP we believe in the power of strengthening and stretching. In fact, we recommend you include it in your training and day to day lifestyle. We are very fortunate to have partnered up with Apollo Power Yoga. Apollo have kindly offered our CP Summer Members one free yoga session per week over the summer!

Some of you may have seen Hamish Kenworthy's weekly yoga pose in the Christchurch Press. If you've missed them, you can catch up on them here. (click on the list to the right).

CP Group sessions:

We are always looking for ways to make your life easier - so you have more time for the fun stuff in life! We have a rad new system for booking in to our group sessions. It is much easier to book in for a group session, and oh so simple to book in for multiple sessions at once- woohoo! We've listened to your feedback and believe we finally have the ultimate system.

You can also book in for technique sessions and consults with each individual coach.
Yep, it's rather swish! Try using it this week to book in for your runs and rides. Follow these simple steps:
  1. Type in your name as being new to our site
  2. it will then ask you to fill out a brief form
  3. then you can select your group
  4. then there are a number of payment options to choose from.
There is even an app you can download to your smartphone so you can book-in on-the-go!

Training Tip: Bike Helmets?

Yesterday I saw four people in half an hour wearing their helmets either incorrectly or broken. Two more people I spotted had helmets that were as old as the hills and I'm sure wouldn't be very effective in an accident. You have to wonder how many times that helmet had been dropped and weakened by the elements in it's 25yr life...
How old is your helmet? Do you have a replacement policy? eg. after it's been dropped a few times, or do you check for cracks regularly?

This article is a bit outdated (from 2010) but still asks some really good questions. http://www.helmets.org/replace.htm
Do you need to replace yours?

Cycling in France.

Peter and Rowena have kindly written a few words (with stunning photos!) about their cycling trip in France. Warning- this will make you want to book your tickets! Check out their trip here

CP Running groups

It's all systems go for Tues run group- 6:30am at Hagley Park. Fleur will put you through your paces with intervals, technique work, plyometrics and team challenges. Whatever your fitness level or ability, come down and see Fleur on Tuesday morning. Book your spot now.  and use your CP Summer Membership.

Sunday morning run info from Fleur: each week we'll tackle a different route, aiming to get as much trail and as little road as possible. To kick things off, this week we'll meet at the main carpark at Victoria Park (by the playground) and head upward from there. We'll be running for about 75 minutes - bring a watch, as the course will be an out and back with a set time at which you'll turnaround. That means that all speeds and strength levels are catered for, so whether you're feeling like a Gazelle or an Eeyore, you're welcome to join! I'll give a quick briefing of the planned route when we meet on Sunday morning so everyone knows exactly where we are heading.

I don't know about everyone else, but I reckon coffee after running is pretty good! I'll be heading to Coffee Culture Beckenham afterward to swap stories with the CP Sunday roadies, so if you have time up your sleeve then plan for that too!
