October 2014
Four years ago, Loyola embarked on a very exciting incentive for alumni giving by partnering with the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, an affiliation that has given a greater importance to any gift our alumni make to their alma mater. Simply put, once a class reaches a giving percentage of 20%, it earns a $5,000 grant and each year thereafter if the class grows its participation by just 1%, the foundation will award another $5,000. Additionally, a $5,000 award is presented to the class if it achieves a 30% attendance at their reunion.
To say this has stimulated alumni giving would be a huge understatement. The 5-year participation average for all classes from 1943-2001 at the onset of the Leavey relationship was 16%, but after only 4 years of this association, the overall class participation average from 1943-2004 now stands at 26%, a whopping increase of 10% that has netted Loyola $1.455 million from our philanthropic partner.
This has not been achieved by just a few classes carrying the load either. This past year-four giving period, which recently ended on September 30th, all 61 classes (1943-2004), who have been asked to be counted upon, reached their participation goal! A feat that is not easily accomplished nor nonchalantly expected. From everyone associated with our cherished alumni – we say WELL DONE!
This commitment to giving back in such a demonstrative way clearly illustrates what ALL our alumni know and believe, from the first moment of their freshman orientation to the occasion of their 65 or 70-year reunion, ONCE A CUB, ALWAYS A CUB.
From the bottom of my heart and all those associated with Loyola, THANK YOU!
