Join Us For Homecoming!
October 5
This Sunday, we will celebrate our 140th year as a church. This special service will include a sermon by Rev. Jim Brooks, a past associate minister of the church. Following the service, the Fellowship Mission is providing a great meal of a meat and three vegetables, dessert and drink. The cost for the meal is $7.50 for adults, $3.00 for children 5-10 years old, and children under 5 are free. There is still time to make your meal reservations, either by signing up on the sign up sheet in the narthex or by calling the church office. Homecoming is a great opportunity to invite old and new friends alike to worship.

For Such A Time As This:
Sermon & Stewardship Series
This fall, we’ll spend the month of October thinking about the ways that God has gifted us as individuals and as a church, and about the ways we can use our gifts to carry out the mission and vision God has given us. We’ll hear stories from scripture about the way God uses ordinary people for extraordinary purposes. We’ll hear stories from church members about the ways God is working in our congregation and changing lives in our community. On October 26, we’ll have the opportunity to pledge our financial support for the ministries of First Christian Church for 2015.
I believe God has gifted us, encouraged us, loved us, and empowered us, so that we can make a difference in Birmingham, in Shelby County, and to the ends of the earth. God has put us here for just such a time as this. I look forward to worshipping with you in October as we get ready to carry out the good and important work God has given us.
Blessings, Troy

We Need YOUR Help With Trunk or Treat!
On Sunday, Oct. 26, we will gather at the church, open the trunks of our cars, and invite children and families from the community to Trick or Treat. We’ll also have a cakewalk, face painting, hayride, pumpkin decorating, prizes, hot dogs, and more. There will be something for everyone! Expect all kinds of fun festival activities in addition to the trunk or treating.
None of this can happen without YOU. We need as many people as possible to sign up to decorate a trunk (sign-up sheet in narthex or call/email Chris in church office). You can decorate however you would like. If you need a place to start, do a Google search of “trunk or treat ideas” and you’ll find all sorts of great possibilities. Plan on having enough candy or treats for 100+ trick-or-treaters. Set-up will begin in the soccer field at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 26th. Cars, trucks, or vans need to be parked, decorated, and ready for activities by 2:45. All cars should remain parked until 5:00 p.m. This is important for the safety and enjoyment of our children! The more trunks we have the better!!!
We also need to folks to sign-up to provide baked goods for the cakewalk (sign-up sheet in narthex or call/email Chris in church office) and to help us get the word out. This is a community event: please invite your friends, neighbors, and family members. Fliers are available that you can hang up at work or businesses you frequent, or to pass out as an invitation. Also watch the church’s Facebook page for an event invitation you can share on social media.
Join us on Oct. 26th! Come as you are or come in a costume…no matter how you dress, please come join us and join in the fun!

Thursday, October 30, 6:00PM—7:30PM
The Adventure Nook pre-school children are busy and focused in a nurturing program here at First Christian Church….a mission which proves that this congregation reaches beyond itself.
On Thursday, Oct. 30 from 6:00 to 7:30 TAN will sponsor a Fall Festival fundraiser by selling tickets for prizes. Parents bring their children in Halloween costumes to enjoy fun activities in the Fellowship Hall while mom and dad peruse the prize table, have dinner, and wait for the drawing.
Donations of items such as children’s toys, gift cards for restaurants, jewelry, house décor, etc. are appreciated. If you care to make a “prize” donation please see Sandy Hamilton, Shaina Berry, Julie Henderson, Donna Penn or me by Sunday, Oct. 26.
Thank you for your support.

NEW CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL
BEGINS OCTOBER 5th
We are very excited to begin a new Sunday School model for children’s ministry starting this Sunday, October 5th. During this month we’ll focus on Creation and throughout the month children will explore the Creation story through Art, Drama, Games, and Music. We can’t wait to share this with our children, so be sure to be there on October 5! If you have
