Back into full swing after a beautiful summer, September has very a very busy month with numerous great events and new project launches!
We hope that everyone enjoyed OpenLivingLab Days. It's always a pleasure getting to meet and reconnect with members and friends of the ENoLL network. You can read below a small synopsis of the event and find links to presentations, photos and resources used throughout the conference in addition to the published conference proceedings.
Looking towards the later part of 2014 we have a pack calendar of events to look forward to so don't forget to book your agenda's already! There are also some great opportunities available to entrepreneurs through the FIWARE Accelerator Programme and Living Labs looking for a unique test environment to undertake research in the wild!. Festival As Lab: call for proposals!
Launching officially today is a unique opportunity to undertake research, design and experimentation in the wild, in a living, urban environment as a part of the 20th anniversary edition of FutureEverything festival, 26-28 February 2015 in Manchester, UK. Festival as Lab (FAL15) aims to take research out of the laboratory to test ideas and prototypes live with festival attendees and/or Manchester residents. Living Lab trials during a festival enables the free circulation of people and ideas, connects people at different levels, from grassroots to government and business leaders, and provides a unique temporary platform to conduct participatory research, design and innovation processes. OpenLL14 Conference Proceedings
Within OpenLivingLab Days a call for papers was launched to address both conceptual and empirical challenges and stimulate discussion on a number of Living Lab related topics. 40 papers were submitted by researchers and an international review panel led by Prof. Pieter Ballon (VUB of Brussels) assessed the articles and finally accepted 18 papers. These were presented during the Research Day and included into conference proceedings (online version is now available). The paper presented by Yvonne Franz and entitled “Chances and Challenges for Social Urban Living Labs in Urban Research” won the Veli-Pekka Niitamo Prize for best academic contribution. FIWARE Accelerator Programme
September 2014 marked the grand opening of the FIWARE Accelerator programme, where the European Commission has allocated 80 million Euros to foster innovation and businesses on the Internet of the Future. 16 different accelerator projects in different thematic areas from smart cities to media, learning to agrifood, were launched in September 2014 during ECFI-2 event in Munich, helping entrepreneurs capture opportunities coming from a new wave of digitization in multiple sectors.
80 million Euros will be distributed amongst SME's, start-ups and web entrepreneurs across Europe with innovative ideas for sustainable businesses that will lead to transformations in the daily life of people, organisations or businesses.
