Welcome

October is always a month of change and of new faces at Yorkshire Artspace and this year is no exception.  We wish our Starter Studio Programme ‘graduates’ all the best in establishing their creative practices out in the big wide world, drawing, we hope, on the great start we have offered them over the past two years. We welcome the new Starter Studio Programme participants who will settle in to their studios and meet their mentors this month.  And we find out how our Microgrants are impacting on communities across the city.  This year our Starting Out course, designed around the needs of these emerging artists and makers, will be available free on line to all through Studio54 where you can join us for the whole 13 sessions or just choose those most relevant to your needs.  We seem to say hello to new faces almost weekly at Exchange Place Studios where we now have a creative community of 49 artists and makers and just a dozen or so studios left. Come and meet them at our annual Open Studios Weekend in November alongside artists at Persistence Works and Manor Oaks Studios.  If you can’t wait until then the second Pop up Shop created by the Exchange Place Studios artists is open this very weekend.  You can find out what our new neighbours, the good folk of Castlegate, think about changes to this historic area of Sheffield in our ReMake Castlegate project, part of the hugely successful Festival of the Mind. And at harvest time what could be more appropriate than Emilie Taylor’s Harvest Jugs, the result of her year-long residency between two contrasting estates, The Manor and Chatsworth.

Open Studios

This November we expect over 100 of our professional artists and makers to open their Sheffield studios to the public. Come along and join us for this free event. There will be pop up cafes at Persistence Works and Exchange Place Studios and the farm shop and cafe at Manor Oaks Studios will be open.

The event runs from Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd November. Click here for more information on venues and times.

People who live, work in and visit the area were invited to help us build up our model designed to get people thinking about and engaging with the future of this area of the city.
