Everything seems to be chugging along smoothly. Both clubs operating in their own special ways. Smalls - chaotic, wild, unruly. Mezzrow - austere, relaxed, sophisticated. Both wonderful. It's been a great experience walking across 7th avenue and stepping into either world and marveling on how both are operating. Remember that schmuck "Django Gold" who so cynically disparaged Sonny Rollins or that other guy, I can't even remember his name - well, believe me - jazz is ALIVE and WELL in New York City - stronger than it's ever been. Don't believe anyone telling you anything else.
This week at Mezzrow we have Ethan Iverson and Ron Carter Thursday, Friday and Saturday - the music room seats are sold in advance but if you want to come please drop by because there's always room in our bar/lounge area. We welcome walk-ins and usually folks get a seat, so take a chance. Tonight at Mezzrow is the wonderful Johnny O'Neal - if you haven't heard him in the Mezzrow context, please don't miss him.
I look forward to meeting you all there in person and please have a peaceful and productive week.
