"I finally understand my assignment! I can't wait to tell my teacher."

Little breakthroughs.  Every day. That's what we have the privilege of witnessing here at The GreenHouse.  Teens realizing that they can have a positive impact on their neighborhood and that their voices and opinions are listened to by adults.  Parents coming together to make key decisions about GreenHouse events and priorities.  Volunteer tutors getting to see the radiant smile on a child's face when long division goes from "terrifying" to mastery, or when the drama of Charlotte's Web comes alive for them during our weekly Evergreen Book Club.

It's the little things that we're thankful for this season, and it's the little things that remind us of God's gentle hand at work in this community.  Thank you for being a part of that work . . . for being a partner with us in all the little breakthroughs.

By the way, Vlad ended up getting a B+ on his math midterm, his highest grade of the year.  He's all smiles.

Harvest Carnival and Thankful Hearts Celebrations Coming Up!

We still are in need of some donations for our Harvest Carnival.   If you find good deals on bags of candy or little prizes for our carnival games, please consider purchasing and donating them for the Harvest Carnival, coming up on Saturday Oct 25th.   If you are interested in volunteering that day as a pumpkin carver, face painter, or food server we still have some spots!  Contact Josiah at josiah@thegreenhousecenter.org if you're interested.

Our annual Harvest Carnival at Niños Park offers neighbors an opportunity to come together and enjoy a day of safe family fun with one another.  This free event offers a pumpkin patch, carnival games, special performances, great food, a bounce house, face painting, and a positive families to connect with the broader community in the Gardenland/Northgate neighborhood.

Thankful Hearts Celebration
Several local schools, libraries, and churches are collecting donations for our Thankful Hearts event coming up on Saturday, November 15th.  More food donations or gift cards are welcomed!  All GreenHouse families will give $7 in exchange for a food basket with items of their choosing - - all of the donated money raised by families will be "paid forward" to a charity of their choice.

GreenHouse parents will also be hosting our annual Multi-Cultural Thanksgiving Celebration on Friday, November 14th with favorite foods from their cultures (India, Pakistan, Guatemala, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus).  This unique is event is their way to express thanks to all of the donors and local partners who make The GreenHouse possible.   If you are interested in attending this special event or helping collect food donations, contact Brian at brian@thegreenhousecenter.org.

More information about our Fall and Christmas community-service events (led by parents and teens) is on our events page at our website.
We hosted a wonderful going away celebration for the Valdez family several weeks ago. This family has been a part of The GreenHouse for over 9 years and have seen their kids (literally) grow up with us. Their three oldest girls were all youth leaders with our "Leaders in Training" team; mother (Maria) was a strong and consistent community leader with our Parent Action Team; father (Enrique) always loved to help out and share his famous champurrado (hot chocolate porridge) with the Christmas carolers each year. We send them off with our prayers and our best wishes for their new life in Salt Lake City, Utah!   Pictured here:  Perla and Maria share a laugh looking at pictures in a new photo album of 9 years of GreenHouse memories.

Thank you for helping make The GreenHouse such a special place; where young dreams can soar, and where families are building a new vision for their community and their future.  We appreciate your partnership!
