Star Party
Sat. October 25, 7:00pm @ Walker School

The forecast for Saturday night is "mostly cloudy" so it doesn't look good for star gazing. The Star Party has been postponed to next Saturday. It will be held regardless of weather on October 25th, with an inside party if need be. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Ron Thompson, from Cornerstones of Science, will give a "what's up" in the October sky. Then we will go outside and find constellations in the night sky. Our new library telescope will be set up for viewing.

Dress warmly and bring: flashlights, blankets, and binoculars (7x50 recommended). All ages are welcome but children must be accompanied by their parents.

Volunteers - 4:00 at the Library, Ron will hold a training about the care and use of the telescope so that patrons may start borrowing it.

Discovery Kits

We've added five new Discovery Kits to the library collection: Bugs, Birds, Geocaching, Dinosaurs, and Early Reading. Three more will be added soon. These Kits are intended for parents, teachers, homeschoolers, or other adults to be used with their children outside the library. All Kits may be borrowed for a 2-week period with a valid library membership in good standing. To see what is included in each Discovery Kit, see Recently Added Titles.

Large Print Books

We've recently added many new Large Print books to our collection. In order to make room, we had to weed some older ones. Many of them were donated to the Togus VA for distribution to veterans throughout the medical center. We received a very nice "thank you" letter from them for our donation.

The Life of a Maine Soldier During the War Between the States
Saturday, November 15th, 2:00-4:00

During the Civil War many boys and men from Maine served our nation with great distinction. Henry Lunn, M.Ed. from Camden, Maine, will take on the persona of Myron W. Harris, a young man from Littleton, Maine, who joined The 20th Maine: Regiment Infantry Volunteers, in August 1862. In uniform worn by the Union soldiers, Myron will tell his story of the hardships of the common Union soldier from enlistment to the end of the war.

Shopping Season

I know that some people are already thinking about the upcoming holiday season. Just a reminder that when you shop at smile.amazon.comAmazon donates 0.5% to the charitable organization of your choice. Please choose "Liberty Library'.

If you would like to donate an item to the library, check out our Wish List on Amazon.com. See other ways to donate on our webpage 'Donate'.

We are still collecting mittens and hats for children at Waldo Cap. And we are still in need of a chair or love seat for the Children's Room so that parents have a comfortable place to sit. If you haven't visited the Children's Room lately, come see the new additions.

See you at the Library,
Barb
