Thrive Women's Missions Conference
A Time of Refreshment thanks to The Moody Church (TMC)

Several dozen missionary ladies from throughout Africa converged on Dar es Salaam, Tanzania October 19-22.  Most came from Tanzania or nearby Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and so forth.  I won the prize for coming from the farthest, along with Dee and Claudia, fellow TMC missionaries in Nigeria.

Together, we enjoyed three days of great teaching , attentive pampering, and sweet fellowship.  The highlight for me, though, was small group and one-on-one discussions with seasoned missionaries and women's ministry leaders, who had come half-way around the globe to minister to us.  What a treat!

On my return trip home, I had a two-day layover in Nairobi, where I had the pleasure of shopping at the famous Masai Market.  I saw a skirt I had to have, but I wasn't satisfied with the seller's offering price.  After much haggling, he still wouldn't come down to a price that suited me.  That is, until I offered to sweeten the deal by throwing in the skirt I was wearing - which was an original fabric and design from Senegal.  :)

Caring for Dan and Isabella's Health

You may remember from our previous newsletter that after countless doctors' appointments, tests, and prescription meds, we came to conclusion that we'd exhausted all possibilities in Senegal.  We considered what options would work best for our family and plans quickly came together for us to come to Oceanside, California.  Crossworld's health insurance is a pooled fund, which each family contributes to monthly, and draws from as needs arise.  But, in order to protect the fund, CW encourages its workers to seek medical assistance, when possible, outside of N. America.  The fact that my parents live about 1 hour from Tijuana, Mexico, made this city the ideal location for us to seek treatment for Dan and Isabella.

Less than a week after arriving, we'd already seen a pediatric gastroenterologist for Isabella and a GP for Dan.  Isabella appears to be suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which we've begun treating.  In addition, we were thankful that blood work revealed that she doesn't have Celiac's Disease or food allergies or sensitivities. She still complains of tummy aches, but not as often.  Her doc says it'll take three months of treatment to know for sure.

As for Dan, we are still pursuing answers for him.  When he first saw a GP, his bouts of extreme fatigue seemed to be rooted in unusually low blood pressure.  However, since then, his blood work has shown that his condition is related to his thyroid.  This was surprising to us, since numerous tests in Senegal came back negative for thyroid issues.  We have an appointment with an endocrinologist this week, so we should know more soon.  We will keep you posted as things become clearer.
