SAC's 2016 Conference: Call for Volunteers


Speech-Language and Audiology Canada's next national conference will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia from April 27 – 30, 2016. Although that may seem far away, we've already started the planning process to ensure that we deliver a high-quality educational program.

We are currently recruiting a team of dedicated and engaged speech-language pathologists and communication health assistants to join our conference working group. This is an excellent opportunity for members and associates to help shape our 2016 conference program. Please note that volunteers can participate in this working group from anywhere in Canada.

We are looking for a minimum of 14 people to fill the following positions:

Conference Chair (1 position)
  • Responsible for overseeing the overall educational and social components of the conference.
  • Must participate in teleconference meetings that will increase in frequency as the conference approaches.
  • Must attend the 2016 SAC Conference in Halifax (SAC will cover travel, accommodations, meals and conference registration).
  • Term: begins immediately and will end 2 years after the date of his/her appointment.

Program Sub-Working Group (6 or more positions, including sub-group Chair)
  • Responsible for recommending workshop topics and speakers.
  • All group members must participate in teleconference meetings that will start in January 2015 and continue until the conference program has been finalized.
  • Term: begins immediately and ends at the conclusion of the conference.
  • Chair will receive complimentary registration to the 2016 SAC Conference.

Contributed Paper Sub-Working Group (4 or more positions, including sub-group Chair)
  • Responsible for evaluating and recommending contributed paper and poster selections.
  • Meetings will take place via teleconference.
  • Term: Chair’s duties begin immediately; the other group members’ tasks will start in fall 2015, at which time the majority of the work will take place.
  • Chair will receive complimentary registration to the 2016 SAC Conference.

Hospitality Sub-Working Group (3 or more positions, including sub-group Chair)
  • Responsible for recommending and executing social and networking events and entertainment.
  • Group members must be current or past residents of the Halifax area.
  • Meetings will take place via teleconference.
  • Term: Chair’s duties begin immediately; the other group members’ tasks will start in fall 2015, at which time the majority of the work will take place.
  • Chair will receive complimentary registration to the 2016 SAC Conference.
