SCHEDULE FOR FT. WORTH

AND FINALLY!

A NEW INCINERATOR!!

Things at Maua Methodist Hospital Are On the Move!

FIRST!  THE FT. WORTH SCHEDULE!

For those of you able to make the gathering in Ft. Worth, here is the schedule for our two days together!

At the outset, let us share our regrets that Sue will not be able to be with us in Ft. Worth.  Her mother requires additional care in her battle with cancer of the sinuses, and Sue will need to be with Bette as she and her brother and sister-in-law provide home care for the immediate future.  It was a difficult decision to make, but family trumps all, and she will need to be in Silverton, Oregon.  That also means she will not be with Jim on our swing through Idaho and Eastern Oregon churches.  We ask your understanding and prayers!

Our meeting venue in Ft. Worth will be Ft. Worth First United Methodist Church.  It is a few blocks from the Marriott, for those of you staying there, and it is our understanding that there is parking available (at a cost) across the street.

SEE YOU THERE!!!  IN PERSON AND IN SPIRIT!!

NEW MEDICAL WASTE INCINERATOR INSTALLED AND WORKING!!!

Talk about projects without, umm, "Curb Appeal"!  Disposing of medical waste is one of those things most just don't think about.  And yet hospitals cannot function safely in today's world without appropriate waste provisions.  In the event Ebola reaches East Africa, it is going to be even more essential to have state-of-the-art elimination of medical waste.

Thanks to the combined efforts of various United Methodist churches in Houston, and the Canadian UMC, in Canadian, Texas, MMH now has the only medical waste incinerator in our neck-of-the-woods.

We cannot stress how big this news is!

It arrived from U.K.  A crowd gathered as the truck slowly moved through town!

There were two incinerators on the truck, one for us and one for Embu....ours was the larger of the two! Even had our name on it!

Hoisting it up was a process, and took a special crane all the way from Nairobi!

They even made Jim wear a hard hat, although his family would say it was unnecessary.......he's hard-headed enough already!

It was a bit of a tense moment when we all realized the incinerator was one inch wider than the opening!

Lost a little paint...and a little mortar, but it made it through!

Next came the chimney!

And finally was in place!

The incinerator is now in operation, with several staff members trained in how to use it.

It is on the backside of the laundry, between the laundry and the mortuary!

Our next big challenge is to obtain the protective gear needed by our workers and staff to make sure that all medical contingencies can be met...and disposed of...with safety!

We have recently received generous donations for a new generator and new oxygen plant compressor and system!

Stay tuned for more photos and new improvements at the hospital!

Our ongoing challenge remains the high number of persons who cannot afford their medical care.  We are running about $20,000 USD in the red each month, and appreciate any and all gifts to the Service Fund Advance Special!

Blessings to all of you, and will either see you in Ft. Worth OR send you an update of what transpired!

Asante Sana,
Jim Monroe and Sue Owen
