Things You Didn't Know About the Hospitals in Northern Ghana
by Hazel Vint

Having lived in Africa and been a patient at many hospitals for more than the last three years I thought I had a pretty good understanding of some of the practices and problems these hospitals have to face on a daily basis. It wasn’t until working for the NGO, Ghana Medical Help, in northern Ghana that I realised just how much is lacking in terms of facilities, medical equipment, education, organisation and professionalism within these hospitals.

A Night with Chris Hadfield

Join us with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield on Tuesday, November 25 at 7pm at Liberty North in Barrie, Ontario.

GMH is collaborating with the Barrie Rotary Club to put on an incredible evening of dining, inspiring words, and active global citizenship. Chris Hadfield's presentation on the power of drive, passion and curiosity will leave an awed audience inspired to pursue their dreams.

Want in on a secret? Chris Hadfield has plans to play a song or two at our event on his guitar, which will be signed and auctioned off.

This will be an unforgettable evening not to miss!

The funds generated from the evening will support GMH projects in 2015 aimed at improving health outcomes in rural Ghana through sustainable, culturally appropriate and scalable interventions.

Admission: $150 ($100 charitable receipt available)

Our annual equipment training programs were a great success and recently conducted for our 20 GMH Coordinators, who are local hospital health care workers and volunteers for GMH.

"We are excited to be a part of a great NGO that has done and is still doing the biggest equipment donations to help bring good health to the people of the Upper Regions."

Our GMH Coordinators were trained not only on how to properly set up, operate and maintain the donated medical equipment, but also on how to effectively train their colleagues. Additional components of the training programs included their role in daily monitoring and their responsibilities as a GMH Coordinator.

Martha Cordell is our GMH Volunteer of the Month for October 2014!

We are very pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication of Martha Cordell. She put in a great deal of time and effort in brainstorming and coordinating successful fundraising events to kick off our Fall Fundraising Campaign.

“Thank you Marty for your commitment to GMH! You're an incredible team player, and it has been tremendously exciting to see your contagious enthusiasm and creative ideas take form!”

- Kelly Hadfield, Executive Director
