Marty's Message

Most people would agree that UW-Stevens Point plays a fundamental role in the vitality, health, prosperity and sustainability of our region. The human and economic impact is indisputable. According to North Star Economics, UW-Stevens Point:
• contributes $378 million to the regional economy, and over $420 million to the state’s economy annually;
• activities are responsible for almost 5,700 jobs in the region and nearly 6,400 statewide;
• students contribute almost 46,000 volunteer hours and $2.7 million worth of time to local community services.

Recent reports indicate that UW-Stevens Point alumni account for nearly 45 percent of Wisconsin Rapids teachers, 36.2 percent of Wausau area teachers, and 54.5 percent of Stevens Point Area Public School teachers. This undoubtedly fosters an emerging generation with the skills and desires to continue these trends of positive community contributions.

Our impact is evident in sectors beyond education, including business and health care. Our positive cultural and social influences enhance the area’s quality of life immeasurably. It is clear that we have a key role in shaping the future of our region.

I am proud to say that the College of Professional Studies takes this responsibility very seriously and we continually pursue community partnerships to ensure our students are provided with the opportunities, and develop the skills for lifelong meaningful contributions.

Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
