News and Updates from Greater Opportunities

Empowering persons with developmental disabilities to achieve greater self-sufficiency and lead richer lives.

Executive Director's Update

Don’t you wish …

We have never charged our consumers or families for services. Until recently, we have been able to (just barely) float the boat with government funding. Now, as costs continue to rise we are about to be swamped.

So, we really need your help to float the boat. We need you to throw us a life preserver!

Your generous support will promote the health and safety of our consumers. They depend on us – and, we depend on caring, generous folks like you. Please make a donation today to Greater Opportunities. Thank you!

Thank you,

Craig King,
Executive Director
Greater Opportunities

Day Program Open House

Our Open House in October 2nd was a great success with over fifty visitors to the new Adult Development and Activity Center, including San Andreas Regional Center Service Coordinators and Managers, interested families and consumers, VIP elected officials and other City officials, Board members, fellow disability service providers, donors, and many folks whom we do business with. Our visitors were very impressed and complimentary and we're looking forward to lots of new referrals. Anthony Rowe EmCee'd the event; Tom Biagini opened our Welcome Ceremony and was followed by several speakers who included Mark Stone, Assemblyman (on Tom's left) Sam Liccardo, Councilman, as well as Craig King, Executive Director (far right).

We Got a Job!

Andrew, Debbie and Phillip started working in February 2014 one day per week for BJ’s Restaurant and Brew House in San Jose. The Regional Manager has a family member with developmental disabilities and believed that the folks from GO could make a great addition to the BJ’s team. GO consumers Andrew, Debbie and Phillip then went through the online Basic Food Handler’s Course and all achieved their Certificate of Completion through eFoodHandlers.
