CNCDA Dealer Alert: Green HOV Stickers: Going, Going...GONE
CNCDA was notified by the DMV that the Green Stickers limit has been reached. This means that there are no more limited Green Stickers available. The good news is that AB 2013 (Muratsuchi, D-Torrance), a bill to increase the allotment of Green Stickers, was signed last weekend by Governor Brown. The bad news is that these Green Stickers will not be available until January of 2015. Therefore, as of now, dealers should cease to advertise or promise the availability of any future Green Stickers to avoid potential legal liability and claims of misrepresentation. Additionally, DMV will not be accepting dealer applications.
However, the DMV stated that they will be accepting Green Sticker applications from new vehicle buyers in advance of the January 2015 release date. Instruct your customers that once they receive their license plates, they can send in an application with the $8 fee (download the application REG1000). The DMV will then issue the customer a receipt that will reserve the customer's place on a waitlist. Once more Green Stickers are made available in January, the DMV will exhaust the waitlist before they start fulfilling new requests. Note that this does not affect the availability of White HOV Stickers, which are issued for all-electric, CNG, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Dealers may still obtain these for eligible vehicles in their inventory.
