Personal Protective Equipment: Questions and Answers About Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)
Given the recent concern with two nurses in the United States who contracted the disease after caring for an Ebola infected patient who subsequently died from the disease, the number of concerns and questions from healthcare providers continues to grow, particularly related to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). I would encourage you to review the questions/answers contained here and to refer to the PHO or CDC web site. As always, if you have questions or concerns related to your patient care assignment, please consult with the facility Charge Nurse and/or contact the Carecor Staffing Office for direction and guidance.

Carecor News and Upcoming Events
The College of Nurses (CNO) 2015 Membership renewal for 2015 opens on Thursday, Oct. 16. All members of the College, including those in the Non-Practising Class, should renew their membership by Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 to avoid additional fees.
CNO now requires nurses to acknowledge that they understand that they have professional obligations related to the self-reporting, Quality Assurance and Professional Liability Protection requirements on the renewal form. Like last year, nurses will be asked to confirm that they have practised nursing in Ontario within the last three (3) years. Nurses who have not can join the Non-Practising Class or resign their membership. For more information on these topics go to the cno web site: www.cno.org
Staffing Office Updates:
Sign-In/Sign Out - An ongoing reminder to all healthcare providers that you must sign-in and sign-out on the unit when you arrive and leave. Also carry a copy of a Sign-in sheet that you keep with you so that when there are invoice inquiries, you have proof that you've worked at the unit. Otherwise, if the unit cannot find your signature, they won't pay the invoice and you will need to go back to the unit and verify that you actually worked.
Email Communication - As an important communication media, it's important that you check your emails from Carecor regularly for updates, reminders and important information. Make sure that Carecor is on your list of accepted emails so that it doesn't go into your 'junk email'.
Oakville Computer Training (New Requirement) - All ICU, RN and RPN staff who will be scheduled at the Oakville site must have this training in order to continue working at this site. The training is 8 hours and the contact is Georgedan.
Credential Review - A reminder that BCLS, ACLS, N95 Mask Fit, and TB Skin Testing are all ongoing requirements that need to be current so as to maintain your active status with Carecor. If you have received reminders over the past several months, please ensure you email or fax the information as soon as possible to the human resources department.
