Sunday, October 19
9:00a & 11:15a Worship Services

How do we become “filled” with God?

This Sunday, as we move into Philippians, the 2nd of Paul's three letters, we will discover that to be full we must first become empty through surrendering to Him! But the best part of this whole equation is the fact that it is God Himself who is committed to seeing this process through! In other words, we do not have to stress, worry or be concerned about trying to “get it right” all the time – we are God’s project and as long as we continue to surrender to Him, obey Him and follow Him to the best of our ability, then He has promised to take care of the rest!

Pastor/Staff Appreciation Potluck
THIS SUNDAY :: 12:15p

Gather this Sunday for a shared-dish dinner as we celebrate Pastor/Staff Appreciation Month together as a church body. Bring one or two of your favorite meats, side dishes and/or desserts. Plates and other dinnerware will be provided by the Fellowship Team.

Also, consider taking a few minutes to write our pastors and staff a brief note to let them know how much you appreciate them.

As we have finished the third quarter of the year, the Leadership Team wanted to pass along an update on how the church is doing budget-wise.  You may have noticed that the weekly giving reported in our program is usually short of the average weekly budget.  This is not unusual for the summer months, and in prior years the year-end giving has normally made up for most, if not all, of the summer shortfall.

The purpose in reporting this is not to sound any alarm, but just to keep everyone informed and to remind all of us to pray and participate in supporting the ongoing ministry of the church as God provides and leads.

As I reported to the congregation this past Sunday, giving was 71% of budget, or $148,492 under budget for the first 9 months.  Actual expenses for the same period were 98% of budget, or $9,815 less than budget.  In weekly terms this means we averaged a shortfall of $3,556 for 39 weeks.  In total dollars, giving was $84,247 or 19% less than during the same period last year.

Meals on Wheels
November (Sign up in October)

November marks our church's next opportunity to serve the community by delivering Meals-On-Wheels.

New volunteers are always needed, and the faithful deliverers are counted on.  It takes only a little over an hour of your time, and is a great family activity if you wish to involve your children.

A sheet is available in the Parlor
to sign up for one or more time slots.

For questions, contact Jean Frigon at pjfrigon@yahoo.com.

Fall Family Supper
Fri., Oct. 31 :: 5-7p :: Come 'n' Go

Everyone is invited to our Fall Family Supper on Fri., Oct. 31st, 5-7:00p in the Multi-purpose Room. This is a “come 'n' go” so you can bring the family to eat before, after or instead of “trick or treating”.

Choice of soups, relishes, drinks and desserts will be served, plus kid-friendly grilled cheese and PB&J sandwiches! There will be activities for young children.

The supper is sponsored by the Ark Preschool. There will be a basket for a free will donation.

There is a sheet in the Parlor to sign up if you wish to provide a food item for the Fall Family Supper. Thank you for serving in this way!

Missionary of the Month
Rustin & Joy McClure

Rustin & Joy McClure, our Planting Pastor at Faith Connection Covenant Church (FCCC) in Washington, KS, are our October Missionaries of the Month. On Sunday, Oct. 5, FCCC celebrated their one year anniversary of weekly Sunday gatherings! This is a huge milestone for a church plant and they feel very blessed to have made it to this point.

Will you spend time this month supporting the McClure's by lifting them up in prayer?

Please pray:

  • For continued unity in the church.
  • That they continue to make strides toward their own sustainability.
  • For the new leaders on their interim leadership team that just began.

Words
From the Windowsill

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation
of my heart

   be acceptable in your sight,
   O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
(Psalm 19:14 ESV)

I love words, and I love playing with words. Sure, I may groan at puns, but secretly I admire the cleverness of coming up with the pun in the first place. My favorite radio program/podcast is all word games and trivia (NPR’s Ask Me Another), and there’s a BBC radio show called Cabin Pressure that is enormously fun to listen to because so much of the humor involves wordplay (and everything sounds funnier with a British accent). I enjoy the way some authors use language -- J.K. Rowling’s wonderful names for people and places, for example (Ottery St. Catchpole, Mould on the Wold, Nicholas deMimsey Porpington). Some words are just fun to say — “blubber, oddment, nitwit, tweak,” to quote Albus Dumbledore in the first Harry Potter book.
