Meet Your Farmer...
Furrowed Earth Farm
Alabama native Garrett Stephenson found his niche and planted Georgia roots when he began Furrowed Earth Farm just a few years ago. Stephenson got his start and fell in love with farming as he worked alongside other CFM farmers, including Chris Clinton and Isia Cooper of Crack in the Sidewalk Farmlet and Joe Reynolds of Love is Love, and like many others, was encouraged to begin his own operation by Tony and Linda Scharko.
Currently, Stephenson is cultivating two acres of Scharko land where he lives in Union City, as well as a larger tract in Peachtree City. He says Furrowed Earth is a product of his labor, experiences and the things he's learned along the way from the farming community. Though Stephenson's farmlands are largely a one-man operation, he believes the name serves as a constant reminder that there are many more fields of furrowed earth out there and he is not alone in his mission to bring food to folks. Furrowed Earth is at market year-round with a variety of seasonal vegetables and occasionally a few foraged finds. This week at market, make sure to stop by the Furrowed Earth booth for a nice selection of greens, salad mixes and radishes!
Meet Your Vendor...
Sweet Georgia Grains
Since 2008 Sweet Georgia Grains has produced delicious hand-crafted, small-batch granola using naturally grown and certified organic ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible.
Chef Diane Peck began crafting her handmade granola in a small restaurant kitchen in Carrollton, Ga. But thanks to happy customers and market patrons like all of you, Sweet Georgia now operates in a commercial kitchen located in rural Northwest Georgia. There, Peck and her team bake seven varieties of granola weekly. Their unique and healthy combinations of organic rolled oats, seeds, nuts, and dried fruit are lightly sweetened with either locally produced raw honey or maple syrup from a small family farm in upstate New York. Try one (or more) or their seven delicious varieties packed with "fresh flavors and good stuff" at market and take a bag home with you on Sunday!
