Learning soft skills

Each company looks for a different mix of skills and experience. Companies value soft skills because research suggests and experience shows that these skills can be just as important an indicator of job performance as hard skills.
To complement these unique core competencies, there are certain "soft skills" every company looks for in a potential hire. The Career Services Center invited Lorie Kelley, director of client services for Carolina Wealth Management (ING) to discuss these skills with Dr. Francis Adams’ Managerial I class. She discussed six soft skills that are essential to maintaining employment: communications, teamwork, networking, problem solving, critical thinking and professionalism skills. For details about the Career Services Center, visit swu.edu/careercenter.
