"Teacher leadership is a hot topic in education circles these days," writes Carrie Wilson, Mills Teacher Scholars' Executive Director.

 "All new plans for improving student outcomes and helping students engage in 21st Century Learning seem to hinge on effective teacher leadership. But what we don’t hear much about is what teacher leadership looks like and how a teacher can become an effective teacher leader."

Grammar Revisited


"Despite the popular notion that grammar kills the creativity and joy in writing, I found students made many creative choices when they had the tools to play with language."


Grammar study has long been a lightning rod issue for English teachers. In this blog post, Life Academy of Biosciences teacher (OUSD) Annie Hatch weighs in on why she believes that curriculum integrated grammar study can empower underserved students.

Middle School Science Literacy: Getting Students to Deeper Thinking

 
"By relating Darwin’s frame of mind to their own experiences, the theory became more real to them, thus more fully cementing it in their minds."



Through her Mills Teacher Scholar’s inquiry, Oakland School for the Arts science teacher Julie Humphrey sought to learn methods for increasing student engagement while deepening student content knowledge.
