Get out your green crayon, because...

David Kale (Town Administrator) and Gerald Boyle (Dir. of Facilities) re-presented the final round of documents for the Green Communities application on Friday, October 17th to the Board of Selectmen and they approved it! They voted unanimously to approve the submission of the Green Communities Application.

In other words, we did it!

100 Homes in 100 Days

The Belmont Light Energy Efficiency Grant Program includes two new opportunities for customers as of October 15th
  • Weatherization “grants” for $1,500 worth of products and services for a co-pay of just $299 (limited to 100)
  • Heat pump “grants” for $500-$1,500 off of high efficiency heat pump heating and cooling systems (limited to 50).
More details about the program can be found at www.BelmontLightEnergyGrant.com

EPA estimates that homeowners can typically save up to 20% of heating and cooling costs (or up to 10% of total energy costs) by air sealing their homes and adding insulation in attics, floors over crawl spaces, and accessible basement rim joists (https://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=home_sealing.hm_improvement_methodology). Heat pumps offer many environmental benefits by significantly reducing the overall energy used to heat and cool homes.

This program is made possible by the MA DOER awarded Belmont Light $240,250 in spring 2014. Included in this award is a portion for retrofitting streetlights to LED.

Bottle Bill

WHAT WOULD THE UPDATED BOTTLE BILL MEAN?
A “Yes on Question 2” would add a refundable nickel deposit to water, sports drinks, tea, juices and other “on-the-go” beverage containers. A 'Yes' on 2 would also re-establish the Clean Environment Fund, earmarking unclaimed deposits to improve recycling, clean up parks and fund other environmental projects. Check out this FAQ. Get in touch with locals in Belmont working on this issue here: https://www.facebook.com/YesOn2Belmont
