Student Ministry Update

The craziness and chaos of summer High School Ministry (HSM) is over and our HS students have returned from San Francisco, Utah and Czech Republic. Fall has come, school has re-launched and our 12:15 pm hour in High School Ministry has been fantastic! We have been blessed and pleasantly surprised to see the work that God is doing in our HSM already through the time change to the afternoons.

The number of students that are serving within the larger body of the church has now well over half of the kids that we have in the ministry. The side section at the 11:00 am service is full of life as Mike calls them out from the stage every week and the number of students who are attending and coming for the first time is much greater than we were seeing at the 5:00 pm hour. On top of that, God has blessed us with a phenomenal rotation of parents who are preparing and serving lunch to our students every week. Having the intergenerational involvement and the practical investment from parents has been awesome! Thank you to all who have served in this way.

Both our junior high and high school ministries are currently a part of a beta test, working with David C Cook publishing company, the makers of TRU, as they are now creating and writing curriculum and resources for youth ministries called TRU Identity. Joel Elwood and myself have been blessed with the opportunity to team with a couple dozen youth pastors in southern California along with some others across the states to help write, dream and develop this curriculum and to put it into practice this fall within our ministries. As a result, our student groups are currently going through an in-depth study of the book of Ephesians. Our core group leaders are leading this study every week in small groups over lunch and to sit back and watch the discussions and conversations that are being had about God’s Word every week has been a huge encouragement for me as the high school pastor. The deep need for truth to be ingrained in the hearts of our high school students in order to fight against the lies of the culture is a must and we get the chance to watch that happen every week!

I would love to encourage all of you with the reality that we have some phenomenal young men and women who deeply love Jesus, are committed to following Him, trusting their lives to Him and are thrilled to be on mission on their school campuses, homes and wherever else God calls them to represent Him. Please keep praying that the Holy Spirit would continue to reveal Himself to our students in ways that they would engage with Him daily, seeking after the Lord to lead them and guide them in the difficult culture they live in. God is on the move and our students are a huge part of that movement!

High School Pastor

Kid Check-in Transition

Starting Sunday October 19, we will no longer be using our Kid Check system on Sunday mornings; instead, we will use the check-in system with Direct Connect. If you currently use Kid Check, please take a few minutes to update or create profiles for your child(ren) on our new Direct Connect system. If you do not already have a profile for yourself, you will need to create one before creating one for your child(ren). Please click HERE to fill out a child connection card to create profiles for each of your children. Thank you for helping us in this transition.

Come (to my) Home For Christmas

Saturday November 8, 8:30 am–12:30 pm

This year, Women’s Ministries is launching our first ever COME (to my) HOME FOR CHRISTMAS event, Saturday November 8 from 8:30 am–12:30 pm on main campus. This will be a Saturday morning dedicated to motivating and empowering women to open their homes at Christmas for the purpose of hospitality and friendship. Pre-choose three out of 15+ seminars that will equip you for Kingdom conversations and outreach to your family, friends and neighborhood. Don’t miss options like “A Very Pinterest Christmas,” a bunch of “How-tos” (Cookie Exchange, Caroling Party, Craft Party), things to do with children and grandchildren for Advent, events to invite your neighbors to, ways to simplify, decorate and entertain—and much more.

Register online or at the Women’s table on the Plaza on Sundays before November 2. Cost is $10 per person. Space is limited for some seminars so we encourage you to register early. Questions? Contact Caitlin Baird, women’s coordinator, 714.257.4312.

Loft House Complete!

An intergenerational team of 12 men, including two international students from India, recently built a loft house in 4.5 hours for a mom and her kids in Puerta Trampa Mexico. The house was pre-fabricated in our church parking lot and assembled on site close to a Free church and medical clinic. Our church partners with Pastor Trino Ortiz and his wife who facilitate the work there.
