It's (Canadian) thanksgiving already!

Where does the time go? We don't know, but the subject came up today when we noticed that Denim & Steel's third birthday is happening this month. That's right: our birthday drink is a pumpkin spice latte.

New works

Brand & Web - Bright/Contrast

We launched the brand and a small website for San Francisco-based entrepreneur and innovation consultant, Larry Halff.

App Design+Build - Garden Sketch

With smart design and hard work, you can turn a bit of seed money into something special. This summer we helped a new venture do just that by creating an iPad app for garden planning.

New writing

A big part of our branding work is seeing what a product or company stands for beyond its technology. Getting that insight means looking through different lenses. Some lenses are common in the industry, but sometimes you invent your own. We shared one such method recently, called The Party Planner.

Better Every Time 2 launches

After 8 months in the App Store, 23,000 downloads, and a load of feedback, we've taken the next big step in helping people see their own success in changing their lives.

VDW wraps

The first Vancouver Design Week saw designers of all kinds come together to show and share their works and ethos. We're proud to have been Visionary sponsors, managing the entire online presence for the event, and to be directly involved in three events:

1. Vancouver's Design Story: a roundtable gathering of industrial, graphic, interactive, and brand designers from across the city. We co-organized and sponsored the dialogue session, headed by Claire Atkin, and enjoyed seeing new conversations take root.
Read Claire's writeup of the session

2. Open Studios: We joined 33 other design studios in opening our doors for the public to see where we work. We talked about how our studio works, and the importance of both the studio space itself, but also the neighbourhood that we choose to work in.

3. The big night for us saw the first edition of our new, every-two-months-or-so-event, Demo Nite. As part of Vancouver Design Week, we asked presenters to not only demonstrate their works, but to tell us the story behind the design. They did, and we went almost an hour over time! The next Demo Nite will be part of Startup Week Vancouver, and we'll send out details on Twitter as we have them.
