"GRAVITY" Opening Reception @ FLATSstudio, Friday, September 26. Michael Joseph Fox, John-Michael Korpal and Jen Lewis.

Hi Friends!

I am back from my awesome trip to the Midwest for the opening of ArtPrize and "GRAVITY" and can't wait to tell you all about it!

One of the best things about travelling is discovering how small the world really is. At my ArtPrize venue opening reception, a lovely woman approached me in the lobby of Fountain Street Church: “Excuse me,” she said. “ Would I have seen you in an article?” After a few minutes of chatting, we discovered that she had seen an art blog about Beauty in Blood earlier this year because the majority of her family lives in Colorado – her daughter just 10 minutes away from me. What a small world! This sense of community and connectedness ended up being the theme of my whole trip. Without my great friends and supporters, this whirlwind food tour, er business trip, wouldn’t have been possible. Special thanks to the fabulous Karrie Black, Amanda Tinkham, Laura Reynolds, Candace Pinaud & Greg Marker, Autumn Bowman and Alicia Everett for being part of my “A-Team” and ensuring that all my travel plans came together. As Hannibal would say, “I love it when a plan comes together!”

Updates / Events

September / October Blog. If you missed my announcement on social media, I posted a new blog on Tumblr yesterday. A Tale of Two Art Openings gives a brief overview of my experience at ArtPrize and FLATSstudio. Surprisingly, these vastly different exhibits ended up having a few interesting things in common.

September / October Cycle. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, we are getting some really great images again. However, I am going to hold the new images for release in the new year.

ArtPrize is a radically open, independently organized international art competition. Occurring annually, the 19-day competition turns three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, into an open playing field for art and creative expression. At ArtPrize, everyone is invited to find a voice in the conversation about what art is, and why art matters. It’s unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and the public alike.

Widening the Cycle - A Menstrual Cycle & Reproductive Justice Art Exhibit
June 4-6, 2015
Suffolk University
Boston, MA

Since July submissions for Widening the Cycle have been steadily rolling in and I am blown away by the work, skill and thought exhibited so far. Surely Widening the Cycle will make an impact in shifting perspectives and dialogues about menstruation and reproductive justice.

If you've been thinking about sharing the Call for Art with someone, please do it TODAY before the submission closes on November 1, 2014.

All the bloody best,

PS. If you dig the art, please share it.
