Lesson 428: Enabled by the Mercies of God
Mercy impacts our attitudes; it also energizes our abilities. God motivates & enables us.
When God called Moses, he felt inadequate. But God promised to enable him.
Exo.4:10-12 Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”
Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”
We feel overwhelmed; we want to serve God, but we don’t think we are good enough.
It is wise to count the cost before we try to do something beyond our ability. Luke 14:28-33
We may have a strong desire to do a good job for God. But desire is not enough.
We need the resources and energy to finish the task. God provides both, through His mercy.
Rom.12:1 “by the mercies of God… present your bodies as a living sacrifice.”
Paul explains the details of how God wants us to serve Him.
But before Paul describes the work, he shows us the tool we need to do the job: God’s mercy.
We can do God’s will, but only by His mercy.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
