Free Online Course, "Technology Commercialization" Starts Tomorrow, 11/1

The TEAM master's program is offering its first MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) on Coursera. Mark Wilson, lecturer in entrepreneurship at the Simon Business School, will teach the course, Technology Commercialization, Part 1: Setting Up Your Idea Filtering System, which covers ways that high-technology ideas can turn into successful enterprises. Between developing an innovation creed and setting up an idea filter, the course will be great for anyone interested in technical entrepreneurship. The four-week course starts November 1. It is free to sign up and enroll. If you have any questions about the course or the registration process on Coursera, reach out to team@rochester.edu. The course is available to anyone and everyone; Coursera offers courses for free to anyone across the globe.

Entrepreneur-in-Residence Office Hours: 11/3-11/4

Seeking advice from a seasoned entrepreneur? Take advantage of the University of Rochester Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) program. Gregg Steinberg, managing director of Charlemagne Global Advisory and serial entrepreneur, will hold office hours noon to 4 p.m. Monday, November 3 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 4 at the Center for Entrepreneurship. Learn more about the EIRs. Appointments are required. Lecture on Tech Commercialization: 11/11

As part of the Intellectual Property and Commercializing Technology Lecture Series sponsored by UR Ventures, a lecture on Technology Commercialization at the University of Rochester” will be presented on Tuesday, November 11 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Gowen Room on the second floor of Wilson Commons. The lecture will focus on the complex process of bringing innovative technologies from the “bench-top to the bedside.” It will touch on a variety of important topics, including: reasons for an academic researcher to engage in the commercialization process, the transfer of innovation from the University to industry, and research innovation vs. commercial product. Rochester’s youngest business owners will be the focus of Rochester Young Professionals annual Entrepreneurs Expo, a networking and business event being held at the Memorial Art Gallery. The free expo on Thursday, November 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. will showcase more than 30 businesses owned by young professionals, and will include special presentations and networking opportunities! RSVP on Facebook.

Apply to Startup Next Toronto by 11/14

Startup Next is a top startup pre-acceleration program that has helped graduates raise seed funding or get accepted into accelerators around the world like Techstars and 500 Startups. Startup Next Toronto consists of three-hour sessions, once a week, for five weeks from November 28 - January 16, 2015.
