We are so proud of our own Mary Lee Fielder whose name graces an award presented every year at the Y-CAP annual luncheon in her honor.  The Mary Lee Fielder award, Y-CAP's highest service award, was given to Mr. Paul Anderson this year. The event was held this past Monday and Y-CAP Board Chairman Jim Burnett said "No one has worked harder and been more faithful to Y-CAP than Mary Lee!"  Mary Lee is pictured here with Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, who also received an honor at the event.  No less than four speakers remembered Y-CAP founder Carl Carlson in their remarks at the event, and a moment of silence was held in his memory.

THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU for your financial faithfulness this past weekend. We received almost $45,000, enabling us to meet our October budgeted income by a little over $75! Praise the Lord for His provision and your generous response! You can still give online here through THURSDAY of this week to count in October's giving. As we move into November and December, please continue to listen to His voice and invest yourself in His kingdom work here at 510   Together, we can accomplish great things, as God leads and provides!

DISCIPLESHIP DAY this past Saturday was a tremendous time of enrichment and inspiration, as Dr. Mark Lindstrom challenged us from Ephesians 4:25 - 5:2 to extend the life of Christ to those we rub shoulders with every day --- at work or school, in our neighborhood, and in every day interactions. His theme "To My Neighbor, I will . . . speak truthfully (4:25), share compassionately (4:28), encourage liberally (4:29), forgive tenderheartedly (4:32), and walk lovingly (5:2). Almost 60 people who are involved in our discipleship ministries attended. Next year, make plans to be there!

Pastor Kevin and Karen Ulmet have been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and prayers during Karen's recent surgery and recovery.  The cards, calls, flowers, visits and soup that have been brought by have just been heart-warming and encouraging. "THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE EXPRESSED!  IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO SERVE YOU!"

Whatever happens in game 7, this has been a historic and exciting World Series, largely because of a smaller-market team with a fairly low payroll, the Kansas City Royals.  I remember attending many Royals games during my Seminary years in KC, and had just moved away to our first pastorate the year before they won their last World Series in 1985.  This team has had a "whatever it takes" attitude to do the improbable - get to the World Series - with a huge chance to win it all!  And this after having to "play into" the playoffs in a one-game contest with the Oakland A's in a game that will never be forgotten for drama and intensity.  On paper, they shouldn't be there - but there they are!  One game away from a world championship.

Friends, there is a growing number of people here at First Church who are developing a similar "whatever it takes" intensity regarding our church and its future.  Yes, there have been some folks decide to go elsewhere - we miss them deeply and wish they hadn't left us.  There may be some more - we hope not!  But we are determining as staff and elected leadership to press ahead with the ministry God has given us, and embrace a new era here at 510 Woodland.

This Sunday, we will baptize some new believers. I will be receiving several new members in a few weeks into our church. We are resuming the Welcome Classes for new members very soon.  And we are praying and planning for some exciting ministry opportunities in 2015.  Our pastoral staff is so dedicated and so confident in our future, and we have great unity in our church.  We have a LOT to be thankful for as we enter the Thanksgiving season.

As we have been hearing from our millennial pastors in recent weeks, we must do "whatever it takes" to reach people who need Jesus, and be the Church God is calling us to be.  I give a resounding "amen" to everything we've heard from them in recent Sundays.  I challenge you to develop this kind of intensity, and pray as you've never prayed before.  God isn't finished with NFCN yet!

Again this past Sunday, as I met with some incredible teens in a membership class, the music wafted from across 5th Street as we offered our second Tailgate Worship opportunity to those who park in our lot before the Titans game.  The band was awesome, and the devotional from Pastor Matt Dunlap right on target.  There is life in this church, Christ's life, and we are receiving it, sharing it and extending it.

The late Gerald Skinner used to remind me often, as I'm sure he did many of you, that everything we do here is ultimately about lifting up Jesus Christ, and sharing Him with others.  What a legacy his passion to lift up Christ has left for all of us!  Let us never forget that.

I urge all of you who read this - stay the course.  Join us as we pursue and embrace God's future for our church.  Don't miss what He has in store for us.  We will overcome!

Blessings,
Pastor Ulmet

LIGHT-UP ADVENT in our Emmaus Fellowship!
We have an inviting fireplace in our lobby through November 9 with 100 flames.  Each flame has items needed by members of our Emmaus Fellowship and their families, and we are asking you --- individuals, families, and/or Sunday School classes ---  to participate in providing the items on one of the flames and share a meaningful Christmas gift to those who are in need.  Look for the beautiful fireplace located in front of the Information Center in the Reed lobby outside the Sanctuary, and plan to give as you are able.

CHERYL'S LIST - TURNING EMPTY ROOMS INTO HOMES
Cheryl's List is growing! Referrals from social agencies, NFCN, and word of mouth have caused our donations to double each month.  Because the 510 Foundation allocated a significant monetary gift to purchase mattresses and many people from NFCN and other interested individuals have donated used furniture in good condition, Cheryl's List has been able to "turn empty rooms into homes" for  families in difficult circumstances who are transitioning into housing, including honorably discharged veterans, single mothers with children, individuals with serious health problems, etc.  To serve effectively, Cheryl's List needs your prayers that God will continue to provide for the missional needs. These needs include: 1.  Donation of a  large, dry space (warehouse) to store and prepare items for delivery. (We've outgrown Eddie's 2-car garage!)2.  Donations of furniture in good condition and funds to purchase mattresses and other household items.  (PayPal or in church offering)3.  Volunteers with strong backs to help with furniture pickup and deliveries, usually in the evening.

Leave a message at 838-2197 to donate or volunteer.  Thank you for your continued support!

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
We are in need of volunteers to drive our small bus on Sunday mornings to pick up our senior adults who live at Trevecca Towers. You do not need a CDL license to drive.  Contact Pastor Jack Galloway for details.
