"Be the designer of your own destiny." - Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta, one of the greatest fashion designers in the world, will always be remembered not only for the feminine and flattering style of his pieces but also for the fact that every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy has worn his clothes. He dressed first lady Nancy Reagan in the 80s, provided the gowns for inaugural events for both Hillary Clinton (1997) and Laura Bush (2005), and Michelle Obama was wearing one of his creations a couple of days before he passed away. But what a lot of people didn't know is that Mr. de la Renta, raised in Spain, was originally born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

He was one of the many Latinos who are thriving in the fashion industry, conquering runways, celebrities and the streets of top fashion cities such as New York, Paris, London and Barcelona, among others. Wondering who the other Latinos that are dressing the world are? Check it out here.
