In Conversation: Rowan Lear & Tamara Dellutri
6pm Thursday 30 October 2014

Against the stormy backdrop of the Scottish Independence Referendum, and inspired by Dylan Thomas' famous quote: "F**k Welsh Nationalism" and his comment that he felt "like a Englishman in Wales and a Welshman in England", Rowan is developing work dealing with ideas of nationalism, home and belonging. With Tamara Dellutri, Rowan will hold an open seminar looking at the ways in which identity is constructed through voice and language (whether that is Gaelic, English, Welsh or Scots). What does it mean to have, or to withdraw, one's voice?

This year marks the centenary of Swansea’s prodigal son, Dylan Thomas’, birth.  ‘Lyrical One’ is a collaborative project organised by Mission Gallery and Snug Projects which will take place throughout October 2014. It will comprise of a number of workshop and forum-based gatherings of both students, amateur and professional poets and musicians.

Last chance to see...
Beate Gegenwart | Maker in Focus

Ends Sunday 26 October 2014

Each piece is built layer upon layer of drawn imagery, beginning on paper: drawings of lines, net structures with empty spaces, holes; the lines becoming the space itself, conveying a sense of dynamic movement.

Beate is an artist and researcher at Swansea Metropolitan, UWTSD. She received an MA Multi-disciplinary Printmaking, University of West of England, Bristol in 2005 and an MA Ceramics, University of Wales, Cardiff in 1985.

Shelby George | Maker in Focus
28 October - 16 November 2014

Shelby George, a Surface Pattern graduate from Swansea Metropolitan, UWTSD, creates bespoke interior fabrics. Committed to the exploration of traditional textile techniques, her graduate collection is a mix of luxurious velvet, silk, and wool blends. The work draws from photographs of stone from her Grandfather's quarry and the Jurassic coast. Her chosen pallet is a combination of muted and rich colour drawn from the natural qualities of stone.
