Pleasant House Three Oaks News - October 2014: Fall Beers, Join the Imperial Pint Society, A Recap of Our Farm Dinner, Holidaze Preview, and More

PLEASANT HOUSE THREE OAKS NEWS—OCTOBER 2014

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Every season is pie season. But there’s something special about this time of year, when the temperature relieves us of its thermal hoodie and we once again become enamored with chopping firewood and the feng shui of decorative gourds. And of course, eating lots of meaty Royal Pies and drinking delicious beer!

Pleasant House Three Oaks and Pleasant House Brewing Company is happy to take the chill off. In this edition: an update on our brewery, a recap of our harvest dinner with LOCAL, our Imperial Pint Society, and upcoming events. Also included (take note!): New low-season hours starting November 3. And we apologize in advance, but we’ve also included a public service announcement about “the holidays,” as they will be underway before you hear from us again.

Above: The cheese course at our first autumn harvest dinner, in partnership with LOCAL (New Buffalo). Our own Doctor Moxon Dry Stout served with local cheeses and accompaniments, plus Eccles cakes atop Lancashire cheese (we make Eccles cakes by special request; see below for more about special orders and hosting your own event in our private events space).

Stay Toasty with Fresh Pints This Autumn
Our BrewMaven Gloria has been having fun with our beers this fall, brewing with Pleasant Farms herbs, foraged herbs, and fresh hops. Our Holy Bazzle (brewed with holy basil) has been a hit (it's on again this weekend), as was our Forager’s Tonic (brewed with a variety of Michigan foraged herbs and our favorite spices). We also celebrated the harvest with a fresh-hopped beer using hops grown by Pat and Ellie Mullins at their New Buffalo shop using a swingset as a trellis (Pat and Ellie also collaborated on the brew). This weekend we will release a new porter brewed with our proprietary balti spices, and we will begin a series of fun brew collaborations later this fall.

You've Been Warned: Low-Season Hours Begin November 3
We’re not ready to utter the “w” word, so we’ll just call it the low season. Or slow season. Whatever it is, it can quiet down a bit this time of year (which makes it a great time to visit us, but it also gives us a chance to exhale). We will be operating with the following hours beginning November 3 and until further notice (most likely April or May, but we will keep you posted):

Thursday: 4 to 9 p.m. Beer and bar snacks only, cold Royal Pies to go (bake at home!)
Friday: 4 to 9 p.m. Full menu
Saturday: noon to 9 p.m. Full menu
Sunday: noon to 8 p.m. Full menu
Remember: All times are EST.

Recap: Our First Autumn Harvest Beer Dinner
What a good time! (And we’re not just saying that to make you jealous!) Our first multi-course farm dinner, with the fantastic sausage makers and grocers (and very nice people!) at LOCAL (New Buffalo) was a hit. The sold-out event, which took place in our lovely, new private events space, featured a different beer pairing with each family-style course—including our newest harvest beer, Swingset Pale Ale (see brewery story above). We will be hosting more dinners in the future. You can also host your own private event in this space. Email pleasanthousethreeoaks@gmail.com to learn how!

Imperial Pint Society: Where the Action Is!

Our Imperial Pint Society may just be our best-kept secret that’s no secret. It’s our special members-only mug club that takes your beer enjoyment to a new level. IPS members drink from their own 20-ounce, custom, Imperial pint glass every day for the same price as our standard U.S. pint. On Sundays, IPS members receive $1 off all beers (flagships are $1 off on Thursdays, too!), as well as growler discounts every day. We also have invite-only events where members can be the first (and sometimes only) guests to try special-release beers. If you haven’t yet joined, the only question is why not? Thinking ahead to that gift-giving-season-that-we’re-not-quite-ready-to-say-by-name? An IPS membership makes the perfect gift! Stop by our brewery to join, or call us during business hours at 269-756-3600 and we can sign you up via phone.

Holiday Schtuff (with Our Apologies for Preempting Halloween)

At Pleasant House Three Oaks and Pleasant House Brewing Company, we’re more of the shopping-on-the-day-of kind of folks. Whether you’re like us or among the many who want to start planning now, we offer this friendly PSA about holiday catering and special orders. (After all, our handmade pies take time to make, and we’ll take all the advance notice we can get!). We cater both hot and cold pies (bake when you’re ready!), we offer a variety of pie sizes (from full-size to hors d’ oeuvres-size for cocktail parties), we make lots of savory and sweet specialties in addition to pies (including many American and British holiday classics), and our menus make for memorable occasions and happy guests!

For orders of more than 10 pies we require 24-hours notice, and 48-hours notice for items not on our regular menu. (Please note our limited low-season hours starting November 3.) Looking for a special traditional holiday treat? Chances are we have made it—email us with your inquiry! And remember: We are closed on major holidays, and oftentimes on the days before and after, so please place your orders accordingly.
