House For Sale

Hello,

I'm wanting to spread the word that an attached 2 bedroom maisonette on a 477.5sq metre block in Findon will shortly be advertised for sale under the Affordable Homes Program.

Adjoining is a Housing SA property that I live in and I have been told on a number of occasions that while I continue to live here it won't be sold.

Being a lover of edible and useful plants and trees, over the 10 years I've been here my 490 sq metre block has become home to numerous fruit trees, grape vines and a walnut; herbs, vegetables and native plants in the ground, ponds and pots. It is also home to 2 silky bantams.

On the property for sale are 2 stone fruit trees and a neglected young mandarin. The back yard is a blank canvas.

I'm putting this out through circles of like minded people in the hope that someone with an interest in edible gardens will buy the house. I would especially welcome someone who wants to join the yards in some way and work both spaces cooperatively. Even another independent gardener would be a bonus.

All the work on the house prior to sale seems to be done so I will soon be able to find out which Real Estate Agent will be handling the sale.

I've been advised that anyone interested needs to get preliminary approval through their bank for the Affordable Homes Program. Please contact me and I can give you more details and who to contact.

To anyone reading this who doesn't want to buy I'm also on the lookout for people who want to share the working of my property as it can provide much more than one person needs and more could be done with the produce such as more drying of herbs, making of tinctures and oils and even intensive growing of vegetables, fruit and herbs for sale.

Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested.

Cheers

Mount Lofty Commons

Twelve months ago my neighbour told me that the Government was going to sell the Lenswood Research Centre. He thought that this should be kept as a public asset. His idea was that we would incorporate a body that would run the site in the interest of all South Australians. From that initial conversation the idea of The Mount Lofty Commons emerged. Essentially the Commons is designed to help ensure South Australia's food security. Of course we thought the government would be on side. After all food security is priority 2 in the Premier's grand plan to kick start the state.

However, over the course of the journey we learnt quite a bit about what this means in practice. Minister Bignell was sympathetic and could see the merits in our proposal but as you will see from our website, is department is effectively starved of funds - just 3% of the state's budget is spent on supporting agriculture.

So this week we have decided to go for broke.  We are beginning a media campaign. Have a quick look at the website. If you like what we are trying to do simply send an email to John Tons < theloftycommons@gmail.com> with the subject heading: YES PLEASE As we negotiate with the State Government our hand will be strengthened if we can say that we have received lots of emails indicating support for this project. Look forward to receiving your responses!
