Rogers Reception~~November 8

We will host a reception on Saturday, November 8, at the Rogers Schlotzkey's for anyone interested in writing. We will discuss our coming workshops and meet individually with attendees to discuss their writing dreams and goals.

Beginning and established writers are encouraged to attend. Schlotzkey's is at 2709 W. Walnut in Rogers. The reception is from 9-11 am.

LAST CHANCE

to
BE INSPIRED
THIS SATURDAY!!

The Way of Story, the Craft & Soul of Writing will be THIS Saturday, November 1, from 10-4 at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn from international author/teacher Catherine Ann Jones. Tickets are still available.

Find out more about this world-renowned workshop HERE.
We light a candle. We journal. We create a special space both physically and mentally. We pray to God, the Universe, Energy. We rely on coffee, wine, chocolate, peanuts.

Last Thursday, Village Writers shared their rituals, their processes, and learned a thing or five from one another. It was a great evening that illustrated what Writers' Night Out is all about.

THE WAY OF STORY
The Craft & Soul of Writing

On Theme

What is theme? Theme is the meaning, both rational and emotional, of our viewing or reading experience. It is based on the emotional drive of your main character and his resolution of — or failure to resolve — this drive.

Themes are best served through the emotional response of your audience, not by preaching. . .

Once the theme is clear you can go back and track it throughout the story, book, or screenplay. Use theme as a roadmap, focusing on it exclusively as you do a read-through of your draft. Does each scene serve the overall theme?

A Mercedes with an Oklahoma license plate whammed into our new flower bed. When Jessie went out, the driver jumped into his car and sped away. We wish him well.

To the MadHatter's Ball, our director wore a hat made from a portable keyboard. Now if only she could go straight from her brain into it.
