What Eye Think
An artwork that meets the eye as beautiful connects us to our higher selves.

The Chamber
In September I joined the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce. With only 5 events under my belt I'm having a great experience meeting new people, attending socials, networking and learning so much more about the people that thrive here.
The Premiers Luncheon was
a highlight!

L to R: BC Premier Christy Clark shakes my hand, Susan Dolinski (BCLC), and Susan Anton, Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

Who's portrait is up next?
• Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar in formal mayoral attire.

• Fine women's clothing retailer, Anthony Salituro.

• New work using new methods!

It's About Moving People, not with buses, taxi's
or planes, rather by what they see...

"We find introspection, confidence, drama, wit, pride, reflection and more in these faces, and real affection in their depiction. Real people, people like us, the kind of people that make a community what it is."
David Goatley, Distinguished International Portrait Painter
Shawnigan Lake BC
about the Walks of Life Exhibition

"It is so rare to have a portrait so completely capture the inner
and outer spirit of the individual."

Tamara Veitch - Author of One Great Year, White Rock BC

"Mairi took my favourite picture and turned it into an incredible piece of art. Every time I look at it I'm reminded of the loving bond between my wife and daughter and nothing makes me happier. She has given my family its first heirloom."

Brant Westran - Owner, Martin's Renovations, Kamloops BC

"...her portraits are powerful and poignant. If I was getting a portrait done I think I would love it to come from Mairi."

Arabella Canadian Art, Architecture & Design,

TRU's First 'President'

Forty four years of growth including nine years as a full fledged university, this development has been led by six presidents at Thompson Rivers University. As an alumni and former employee it seemed that acknowledging the tenures of these past presidents had arrived, so after approaching TRU with the idea, the first 'president' Jack Harrison, actually the Principal of Cariboo College as it was once known during his term from 1970-79, has been done.
Painted from a B&W photo of Jack and the background was pulled from a 4x6 colour photo of the Old Main building, the artwork is 20x16. Stella Black, who knew him well, said it really looks like him - that's him!

Ten Precious Minutes
Anthony Salituro, the owner of Jardines Domaine and Viva Bridal and Prom, won the TRU Gala Auction bid for a 16x20 portrait.
Our consultation resulted with a composition of Anthony with the sun
in front of Jardines on Victoria Street. In June we planned a photo shoot for later in the summer and waited many weeks until the solar furnace would line up for us - by then it was mid September. There was a window of less than 10 minutes over 2-3 days when it would shine through the trees and between downtown signage at just the right angle in front
of Jardines. Anthony's busy schedule frequently takes him out of town and clouds could prevail on those days, so we had a few obstacles
to cross our fingers about.

The agreed upon day arrived, not a cloud in the sky, before 7am I was setting up gear and tweaking camera settings in the best location - everything was going right, but where was Anthony? THE AWAITED FOR

The narrow space for a beam of light in front of Jardines in downtown Kamloops, BC

ten precious minutes went by, the earth moved, the moment was gone, and then he pulled up. Anthony felt so bad, a train held him up.
Some quick thinking and we moved the shoot out into the street, and quickly took some shots of him in that beautiful morning light. Earlier while awaiting his arrival, I couldn't resist the light so I took some shots of the sun streaming down the sidewalk and it paid off when I merged one of them with the best photo of Anthony into a really exciting image. We did it! Can't wait to see this portrait come to life!
