At this stage we are thinking of making a POP day i.e. one Thursday a month - how would this work for you?  We'd love to hear your thoughts please get in touch.

Queen's Honours for VCS Groups & Local Charities

How about some real recognition for the work the community sector does in Plymouth?
Last year Eunice Halliday of the Crown Centre and Food Bank was awarded the OBE. She says..

We have a lot of other people who deserve awards, and the Honours system organisation are asking if there are more people in Plymouth who you want to nominate.

Find the information you need here, and the application form here  Let POP know if we can help - or if you would like us to arrange for someone from the Honours organisation to come and speak to us and support applications. Good publicity for Plymouth, for the Community SEctor in Plymouth, and a reward for really good work

Plymouth Plan

POP supported

32 groups to host conversations
45 organisations attended the ‘Let’s Get Talking’ Sessions
16 organisations attended the POP workshop
1000 ‘sofa conversations’ with people in partnership with Plymouth City Council at various locations over the summer

The plan will be drafted and out for comment in January 2015.

Plymouth City Council is very keen to see if the VCS could form part of a Monitoring and Review Group, if you are interested in being part of this, contact wendy@zebra.coop

At the POP workshop people were keen to make sure the Plan speaks about “People”, sets the scene to enable open and transparent conversations to happen in the City and wanted to explore how communities could participate in setting their Local Area Visions.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the consultation, the quality of the feedback has been very useful to Plymouth City Council.

For those of you who were not able to comment, POP would be interested in hearing from you so that we can understand the constraints and pressures that  may have made it difficult to participate.

Fairness Commission

The next meeting of the FC leadership group is on 5th Nov, 10-12, venue tbc. We will be looking at our plans for an anti-discrimination community movement (maybe in conjunction with other people), and also, we hope, meeting the consultants who are looking at the best kinds of
leadership in the CVS in Plymouth, and how we can make sure we get it!

Look out for the venue info (anyone offering?) and please keep the date and time free.

Exciting times.
