Catching up...Who is working at the Trust?
New Chief Executive and Project Director, David Green joined the Trust in January and ever since things behind the scenes have been getting busier and busier!
This was supplemented by the appointment of an Engagement Manager, Clare Wincza, in May which enabled the SS Robin Trust to start an activity programme and recruitment of volunteers.
Most recently we were joined by Matthew Friday, who is providing Project Support and hit the ground running with the Tall Ships Festival in his first week and running tours by the end of his second week!!!
Our board of trustees also welcomed a new member, Rosemary Ewles, who brings with her a wealth of experience from the heritage and funding sectors.
What have we been up to?
Our activity programme started at the end of June and since then we have taken our new stand and the handling collection out to 9 days of shows, including the Tall Ships Festival at Greenwich and the Mayor of Newham's Show. The objects in our handling collection are from the ship and have been great for encouraging people to get 'hands on' and see if they can work out what things are for.
The team have run 6 days of behind the scenes 'Hard Hat' tours so far, with 7 more tour days currently planned. These events have been hugely popular, booking up very quickly and it is great to see the enthusiasm of visitors for the ship.
We are also working closely now with various local educational centres. This includes acting as a classroom for a new local school and facilitating a work experience programme for learners from a nearby college.
Our volunteer programme is developing well, we have some really keen additions to the team. The support they give the project is invaluable. Thank you to all of you who have given us your time. Our volunteers have assisted us at shows and on tours, taken some great photos of the ship and the people who visit us and started to make inroads aboard the Robin with the essential maintenance she requires.

Merchandise...
Several people have asked if it is possible to buy one of these hoodies... If demand is high enough we may consider getting some printed up, but we need to know how many people would really want one. Hoodies would be available only in Large and would cost approximately £25.00. If you are genuinely interested in purchasing one please drop us a line at info@ssrobin.com so that we can assess interest levels.

News at the SS Robin
As part of the national Big Draw and the Family Arts Festival we have planned an event called 'Through the Porthole' for the October half term. Young people aged 6+ and their families are invited to come and design their own porthole along the theme of 'it's our world'. Booking is essential (one ticket per child) and tickets are available from Eventbrite.co.uk - just search SS Robin Big Draw.
The Trust has now applied for planning permission with respect to our proposed mooring site. We have been advised that the planning process may tease out alternative options for siting the ship and have agreed with our funders to consider a variety of possibilities both within the Royal Victoria Dock and also elsewhere.

One of our popular 'Hard Hat' tours. We have run tours for the general public, a local community centre, specialist museum visitors, as part of Heritage Open Days and Open House London. All tours are now fully booked.

Some of the team out at the Mayor of Newham's show, way back in July. It seems so long ago now, but it was our first outing with our volunteers and the handling collection. We have also been to the Pier Parade, Tall Ships Festival and the Waterfront Festival.
