Todd and I visited our oldest daughter Laura and her husband Eric last month and as usual had a wonderful time with them. We spent a day touring and tasting wine in beautiful North Carolina and stopped for a picnic lunch at Elkin Creek Winery. Gorgeous fall countryside, delicious wine and great family time!

Watercolor, Rice paper and Stamping

The goal for my new 2014 Creative Corner has been to try something new each month - different techniques, new mediums, mixed media, fun colors - anything goes. For CALLA LILY MUSIC I began painting wet on wet for the background, flowers and leaves and used negative painting for further definition. I had a rubber stamp with musical notes so I used watercolor paint to stamp the image on very thin rice paper which I then collaged in random areas of the painting for added fun.

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category - see all of my SOUTHWESTERN posts here

I would love it if you checked out my Facebook Creative Painting page!

New in Etsy Shop

I painted several coats of white acrylic gesso on 140 lb watercolor paper which provides a slick surface for the watercolor paint, allowing all sorts of fun drips, blossoms and texture.

October Series

The focus of our weekly classes in October was Autumn and we did our annual leaf painting, using real leaves to stamp images on the paper as a starting point for a composition. I used non-typical fall colors of purple, turquoise and burnt sienna.
