We Need YOUR Help With Trunk or Treat!
This Sunday, October 26, we will gather at the church, open the trunks of our cars, and invite children and families from the community to Trick or Treat. We’ll also have a cakewalk, face painting, hayride, pumpkin decorating, prizes, snacks, and more. There will be something for everyone!
None of this can happen without YOU. There is still time to sign up to decorate a trunk, and we'd really like to have just a few more (call 991-5000 or click here to email the church office). You can decorate however you would like. Click here for ideas. Plan on having enough candy or treats for 100+ trick-or-treaters. Set-up will begin in the soccer field at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 26th. Cars, trucks, or vans need to be parked, decorated, and ready for activities by 2:45. All cars should remain parked until 5:00 p.m. This is important for the safety and enjoyment of our children! The more trunks we have the better!!!
Please join us this Sunday...and bring a friend!

For Such A Time As This:
Sermon & Stewardship Series
During this month we have spent time thinking about the ways that God has gifted us as individuals and as a church, and about the ways we can use our gifts to carry out the mission and vision God has given us. We have heard stories from scripture about the way God uses ordinary people for extraordinary purposes. We have heard stories from church members about the ways God is working in our congregation and changing lives in our community. This Sunday, we’ll have the opportunity to pledge our financial support for the ministries of First Christian Church for 2015.
I believe God has gifted us, encouraged us, loved us, and empowered us, so that we can make a difference in Birmingham, in Shelby County, and to the ends of the earth. God has put us here for just such a time as this. I have enjoyed immensely worshipping with you this month as we get ready to carry out the good and important work God has given us.
Blessings, Troy

Do you have church pictures?
We are looking for recent pictures taken of ministries at FCC for our new directory. If you have high resolution pictures (taken with a digital camera) we’d love to have copies. Contact Robin Blakemore at robin@fcc-bhm.org if you have questions or pictures to share!

Personnel Update
I am thrilled to let you know of two important actions the Missions Council took at their October Meeting.
First, Debbie Braswell has been named Director of the Adventure Nook, effective immediately. Debbie stepped into the role of Interim Director in July, and has done a wonderful job of leading TAN these last three months by increasing enrollment, building morale, and setting the direction of the program. I’m looking forward to the excellent leadership that Debbie will bring to TAN for months and years to come.
Second, we have expanded Robin Blakemore’s hours and responsibilities, effective November 1. At the beginning of the year, the Personnel Committee had budgeted and planned to hire two 15 hour/week staff positions: a Minister to Children and Youth, and a Minister of Congregational Care. When we first met Robin, it became clear that she had ample gifts for a variety of ministries, and we began conversations about an expanded role for her rather than searching for candidates for an additional staff position. Therefore. this week the Personnel Committee recommended and the Missions Council approved Robin as Minister of Discipleship, working a ¾ time schedule (30-35 hours/week). In addition to Robin’s ongoing work with our children and youth, she will now work with education, discipleship, and fellowship ministries for all ages, including a special focus on helping new members and friends plug in to the life of the church. She will also assist with pastoral care as needed. Along with Jan Watts, Robin is an invaluable part of our ministry team, and I look forward to all the gifts and opportunities her expanded role will bring to our work together.
What an exciting time to be a part of this amazing church! I am privileged to work with such a great team, and I am honored and grateful to serve as your pastor.
Blessings,
|
