Robbie O'Brien

Here we are almost at the end of October. The year has been flying by and I have been keeping very busy teaching and building . Here is some of what has been happening at O'Brien Guitars in the last few months. Students from all over the world come to my shop and in 8 days build and finish their guitars. They go home with a ton of information, a guitar, bragging rights and a great learning experience. Here are some photos of the last two students, one from Taiwan and another from Australia.

In July I was in Brazil teaching a classical guitar building class to 20 students along with Brazilian Luthier Luciano Borges. Plans are to do another class in São Paulo in August of 2015.

In August I hit the ground running again with the Copper Mountain Guitar Town event where I showed my work. Fingerstyle guitarist, Jim Deeming, who recently recorded some tunes on his O'Brien Guitars OM model cutaway, performed on this guitar with Tommy Emmanuel at the event. Here is a video of them as well a one of the recording session.  Jim will also be performing at a house concert I am hosting on Nov. 22nd. If you are local to the Denver area and want to attend please let me know.

Recently I have been using a shellac based product that when fully cured makes a strong durable finish similar to a polyester but still has the look and feel of shellac. Here is picture as well as a video that shows me applying this finish to a bird's eye maple guitar recently built at the O'Brien Guitars workshop by a student. There is a coupon code at the end of the video for those wanting to try the product.

Every few weeks I launch another video in my very popular Luthier Tips du Jour video series.  Here is the latest one.  If you didn't know, all of my videos are available via my website.

My classes for 2015 are quickly filling. If you can't come to my shop for a building class then my online courses are a very close second to actually being here with me in my shop.

If you are interested in learning to build guitars or just want to see how I build my guitars then schedule a class with me.
If you are in need of a concert quality classical or steel string guitar then let me know as I would love to build a guitar for you.
Thank you,
Robbie O'Brien
