Crack Sealing

Pavement crack sealing has started within the City of Lansing and will occur throughout the City for the next few weeks, as long as weather permits. The City plans to spend $250,000 on crack sealing local and major streets.

Crack sealing is performed on pavement that is 3-5 years old and prevents water from getting under the pavement, which can cause pavement failures and pot holes. Crack sealing provides the best protection of the road system for the least amount of money.

Crack sealing will cause only slight traffic disruptions. The street will be available within minutes of the crack sealing being applied.

Sewer Siphon #11 Replacement Project

Expected Completion: November 2014

The contractor is working in E. Elm Street on the north side of the Red Cedar River to complete construction of the new section of large diameter sewer. They are also completing work on the new cast-in-place concrete structures (large "manholes") that allow access to the newly constructed sewer siphon. Riverbank restoration is also underway; after which, restoration of the roadway, river trail and parkway will begin.

The Beech Street Bridge and the block of E. Elm Street north of the bridge will remain closed to all traffic until completion of the project in November.  Progress updates will be provided in this newsletter.
