I. News and Announcements
• Prof. Madeleine Blais will hold a special screening of "
All The President's Men" in honor of Ben Bradlee, past editor of the Washington Post who brought the Pentagon Papers and the Watergate scandal into people's homes, at 4 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 10, in room S350 of the ILC. Following the film, Prof. Steve Fox will lead a discussion based on his time at The Washington Post and the interactions he had with its most famous editor. Bradlee died at age 93 last Monday. During his time with The Post, the paper received 18 Pulitzer Prizes.
• The students in Journ 295J: Film in the Documentary Tradition will be watching "
Searching for Sugarman" from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 27, in the ILC, room S350. All are welcome to attend. Please reserve a seat by emailing

• Turkish author and Nobel Prize laureate Orhan Pamuk
will read from his recent work as part of this year's Troy Lecture at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Bowker Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
• The Women of Color Leadership Network (WOCLN) will host a round table conversation titled "
Women of Color and Media (Mis)Representations" at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Campus Center 917. This event if free and open to the public.

II. Jobs, Internships and Scholarships
• Consider applying for the
Undergraduate Research in Sustainability Award managed by the UMass Amherst Libraries. Papers, theses, design and multimedia projects, and fine art that present research into a
sustainability topic will be accepted. First prize will receive a $1,000 scholarship and two second place winners will receive a $500 scholarship each. Applicants must be nominated by a UMass Amherst faculty member and the deadline to apply is Feb. 6, 2015.

• If you plan to study abroad this upcoming spring should apply to the
SBS Spring Study Abroad Scholarship. Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 12.
IV. Student News
• For her digital startup idea in Journalism 383: Entrepreneurial Journalism, Nia Decaille ('15) has set up a LinkedIn mentoring group to connect women journalism alumni with women undergrads. If you would like to join, go to Pilot for Project Connect and request to become a member.
• Two students from Journalism 383: Entrepreneurial Journalism, Dan DesRochers ('16) and Eric Bosco ('15), will be representing the Journalism Department and presenting their digital startup ideas at the UMass Innovation Challenge Minute Pitch Competition that will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Cape Cod Lounge of the Student Union. Come cheer them on and help them win the Audience Choice award. Follow the UMass Innovation Challenge on Facebook for updates.
• Check out Taylor Gilmore's ('15) article "UMass Experiences Shape Senior's Future" on Mark Daly ('15), a recipient of the SBS Internship Award. Daly interned this summer as a media relations and promotions associate with the Lowell Spinners Baseball Team, a Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

V. Alumni and Faculty News
• Check out Aviva Luttrell's ('15) recent Alumni Spotlight piece on Ashleigh Barry ('99). Barry won an Emmy Award and the Edward R. Murrow Award for her news special "Saving Sarah" for 10TV in Columbus. She has worked at Fox News Channel, CBS and MSNBC. Today, Barry reports for KTVK-TV in Phoenix.
• Prof. Razvan Sibii was interviewed by Radio France Internationale Romania about the upcoming U.S. midterm elections (Romanian language).
