 Best [PR]actices

It’s no secret we swoon whenever we see a brand stand up for something they believe in. With its current social media campaign, AT&T is well on its way toward becoming the latest company to steal our values-loving hearts.

A long-time supporter of LGBT equality, AT&T launched “Making Your Mark” to celebrate how far the movement has progressed. Throughout October (also LGBT History Month), AT&T is asking fans to check in, share stories or post geo-tagged photos at “milestone locations” – the places that have played a significant role in their journey as members or allies of the LGBT community (e.g., the place where someone first came out). Furthermore, by asking fans to include the #MakingYourMark hashtag with each post, the campaign is creating a virtual map of the people and places that have made their mark on LGBT history.

Many companies have stepped up in support of marriage equality. What’s more important to the LGBT community, however, is seeing brands take things one step further by participating in the movement – not just representing it in their marketing. That’s exactly what AT&T’s Making Your Mark campaign does, providing an outlet for members and supporters to share their stories and elevate the entire LGBT community.
