The Value of Camp:
Long-Lasting Effects

As camp directors we are often asked about the value of summer camp.  What makes it stand apart from other opportunities?  What is my daughter going to gain from this experience?  We know there's more to it than the fun, the silliness and the adventures- but at times it can be difficult to quantify the benefits of camp to those who haven't experienced it before.  These recent articles help us do just that, so we thought we'd share them with you.  Whether you read them to better understand for yourself, or you pass them along to friends and peers who wonder why your daughter goes to camp, use them to help create a stronger understanding of the value of summer camp!

Camper Survey Snapshot

A Review of the 2014 Camper Survey Responses

At the completion of the camp session we ask campers to provide us with feedback about their camp experience.  We use this information when evaluating the summer and planning for the future.  This summer's surveys provided a wealth of knowledge and insight, a bit of humor, and an most importantly, an overwhelmingly positive review of the summer.

Here are some highlights from this past summer's survey results:

Aspect of Camp
(Ranked on a scale of 1 [Didn’t Like] – 5 [Extraordinary])
Session 1 Session 2
Overall Camp Experience 4.80 4.72
Bunk Life 4.40 4.26
Focus Activities 4.46 4.45
Bunk Counselors 4.47 4.56
Activity Counselors 4.38 4.27
CITs 4.58 4.43

We also ask the campers what they enjoyed most about camp.  Here are some of the most popular results:

Friends
Their Bunk Family
Everything
Evening Programs
Activities

And last, but certainly not least...when asked if they want to return to camp next summer 99% of eligible campers said "Yes!".  (Senior camper responses are not included in this calculation since they are not able to return to camp as campers.)

These survey results support our feeling that it was an amazing summer full of fun, excitement and a ton of memories.  We look forward to sharing updates that will be happening based on the constructive feedback that we received.  Look for these updates in future editions of the Moxie Minute.  If you or your daughter(s) have an feedback that you think would help us improve the Fernwood Cove experience please let us know.
